The Satta-toge Pass should have been one of the roughest spot on the Tokai-do in the past. We can see many cyclists and hikers walking along the ancient road, but it looks very tough. At the peak of the Satta-toge, the great view of the Mt. Fuji and Suruga Gulf would be brought to you if the weather could be fine.

Fantastic view of Mt Fuji from here. It was easy to reach from Shimuzu. Leave the station and head for the bus. It’s all signposted in English and the bus makes announcement in English when you reach the right stop and the signs to Miho no Matsubara are also in English. There’s a visitor centre, toilets and some shops and restaurants. Nice promenade lined with pine trees to walk along or you can walk along the beach.

This was so far one of my favorite stops on our cruise. The free shuttle bus dropped us off right in the heart of the port and the guides had a free walking tour set up where we saw crafts and museums and classic architecture, a Buddhist temple and a Shinto shrine all within easy walk and all with delightful guides who gave us advice and information about the area. The Shinto shrine is a branch of the famous Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto and is very instagrammable, but off the beaten track. We participated in craft demonstrations and everything was free and so welcoming. Fuji smiled on us all day. A magical start to our cruise.

There are several mall set-ups throughout Japan and this one at the Shizuoka station meets the quality standards to be there.
