The 10 Best Free Things to do in Grand Baie, Riviere du Rempart District

June 7, 2021 Stefan Strunk

With lively restaurants, white-sand beaches, ever-expanding resorts and a natural harbor, Grand Baie is fertile tourist ground. Located on the northwest coast of Mauritius, its fashion and craft shops appeal to landlubbers, while swimming, sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts frolic in the emerald Indian Ocean. Glass-bottom boat trips provide a window on the underwater world, but for a one-of-a-kind experience, board a two-person submarine and cruise beneath the surface with the tropical fish.

La Cuvette Public Beach

We walked out of town around the headland and came to this fabulous area. It was on a Sunday and it appeared most of the locals had avoided the main beach in town and come to this one. It was packed and the atmosphere was amazing. The beach itself, although really small, is beautiful. Lovely sand and a calm sea with wonderful views. People had taken their small tents, tables and so on and were set up for the day. It was full of life and noise and music. There are changing facilities there, toilets and a big carpark. Great fun!

Banana Beach Club

Since our inception in 1994, we have grown from a small boutique bar to the number one nightlife venue on the island for locals & tourists alike. The incredible Flamboyant tree in the middle of the bar was planted many years ago and has enjoyed its vantage from a mere twig to a towering icon of Grand Bay. Being at the heart of activity in the north, we do not doubt the stories it could tell... Since our ownership in 2003, it was our vision to rejuvenate the music scene and transform our venue into "The Place" in Mauritius for live music. Now, every night music from jazz, blues, rock to fusion is performed. If you wish to just chill out and enjoy the cool island vibes or see top local groups perform, you are in the right place. If you visit the Banana, we sincerely hope that you enjoy your time with us and if you are on holiday, that we can help make it a memorable experience. Dress Code: Smart Casual
