Theatre romain d'Autun

What a great place for a picnic lunch, which we bought at the nearby Farmers Market. This amphitheater was constructed in c.70AD and used for dramatic performances. The quiet ambience of the structure during our visit allowed us to imagine and sense the loud applause of a full house of 20000 spectators. Wonderful! Continuing the Roman theme, we then drove several km to the impressive Arroux Gate, constructed in the 1st C AD. Today's traffic still uses the same two arches where Roman chariots once drove. Now thats worth a visit, despite very limited parking nearby.

Temple de Janus

Reviewed By N0nine - Alsace, France

We had parked our car at Porte d'Arroux and did a short walk (10-15 min) to the temple. The height of it is really impressive. In december, the grass around it is very muddy, so I recommend to were hiking boots.
