Like so many of the reviews report, this restaurant offers stunningly good food in what we (not being French) regard as French cuisine - fine ingredients and exciting, sumptuous sauces. Okay so sitting on the footpath on a side street in Autun is not the best possible location but that is more than made up for by the food and the friendly good service. The carte offers several menus and some al a carte items. Some dishes in the menus have surcharges - to us it's a bit of a messy way to do it. We're slowly getting to understand the relationship between price and quality in French restaurants and we opted for the more expensive menu and the more expensive dishes.
We shared entrees of prawns in brick pastry and asparagus with sauces. Then we shared mains of St Jacques in provencal sauce as well as fillet steak with morilles. Big and tasty meals - check out the photos.
Desserts were okay but clearly not the strength of the restaurant.
€110 for 2 - 3 courses - including apperetif, bottle of Cremant and a small carafe of wine was fantastic value for the meal we received.

We were recommended to eat here by locals, always a good sign. It has a good menu with many local dishes as well as fixed price menus and crêpes too.
The wine list is good with many available by the half bottle.
Cheerful and efficient service throughout and a large bowl of water for our two dogs. Enjoyed our meal so much we ate there the following night.

We ate here on a Monday night when almost everything else in the town was shut. very pleased that we did. The menu was a very reasonable price and the food of a high standard - nothing exciting or innovative but good cooking, which is what we wanted. The service was friendly without being effusive and we would go again.

in the heart of the country side with a lot of beef there is a restaurant only with fish. Friendly and quick staff. It started with a paste of thuna and a very good smoked salmon. The main courses were a St. pierre with a sauce with foie gras and a Dorade - delicious! - Together with the dessert, 1 bottle of wine and 2 glasses of white we paid 120 €. -Good investment. - Very important: Book in advance!!

Lovely little authentic lunch spot. The bavette frites were delicious with worried shallots and the steak tartare very generous on the he meat (needed more mixing ingredients though but the star was the creme brûlée.....so so yummy. Fell like a locals place too.

We lunched today in Autun and although it was searingly hot outside, the wonderful cool of St Georges beckoned. Ludovic, our host was charming and coped admirably with The Blonde's allergy to lactose, conjuring up lovely food, prepared and served in style.
Sadly we were the only guests on this very hot day; Ludovic and his lovely restaurant deserved better.

Zuppa Zuppa

Needing a snack we came upon Zuppa Zuppa as we walked around the centre of Autun. Here you can just go in, choose from the food on display, pick your drinks, pay and take them outside to sit and eat under the trees. We chose a hearty dish of spicy pasta and very good it was too along with a couple of bottles of beer. For an informal place to eat without needing to wait to be served, this place is ideal.

Le vieux college

This is a nice place run by a nice family, and it has been around for 30 years, but travelers coming from countries and cities with traditions of great pizza would do well to avoid eating pizza in Autun (or perhaps most of France, for that matter!). Le Vieux College features some excellent toppings assembled in creative fashion, but the crust is a pre-fab affair which sees double duty in the restaurant's two 24/7 pizza machines. It reminds me a bit of the sad crust served up by the L'il Caesar's chain in the U.S....maybe worse! If you must have pizza, or Italian food in general, La Trattoria is a much better choice...

Restaurant Saigon

Reviewed By Bill K - Neive, Piemonte, Italy

Saigon is in the center of town, and one of the best dining values in Autun. The dining room is pretty and comfortable, and the restaurant is run by a husband-and-wife team, with the husband running the front of the house and the wife in the kitchen. The service is brisk, pleasant and efficient, and the food is really good. As Autun does not have much in the way of Asian restaurants, Saigon must do a bit of double duty with Chinese dishes, which it does well. (Have the Cantonese rice with your meal; it has little bits of the delicious sweet and five-spice powder scented Chinese sausage throughout.) I have never had a bad dish at Saigon. The striking thing is that most things appear to be cooked to order. One that I come back to often is the beef with onions, which arrives in a sauce and appears to be quite ordinary, but the beef in the dish has just been cooked separately, and it is juicy, tender and medium. Another favorite to start is the nems, the crisp Vietnamese spring roll wrapped in lettuce with fresh mint leaves and then dipped in nuoc mam, a mild, slightly sweet Vietnamese fish sauce. You could be forgiven for making a meal on as many nems as you could eat! Most of the Vietnamese classic dishes are represented on the extensive menu, along with many Chinese and other options, and bargain-priced complete meals can be had for around 15€ at lunch and dinner. Portions are particularly generous, so be careful when ordering. The three-course fixed-price menus are probably as much food as most people can handle...
