The 10 Best Food Tours in Tokyo, Kanto

January 25, 2022 Deane Carmody

Tradition collides with pop culture in Tokyo, where you can reverently wander ancient temples before rocking out at a karaoke bar. Wake up before the sun to catch the lively fish auction at the Tsukiji Market, then refresh with a walk beneath the cherry blossom trees that line the Sumida River. Spend some time in the beautiful East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, then brush up on your Japanese history at the Edo-Tokyo Museum. Don’t forget to eat as much sushi, udon noodles, and wagashi (Japanese sweets) as your belly can handle.

Tony was an exceptional guide for the day. We had planned and booked for a specific day. Tony contacted us a couple of days before and told us the weather was not going to be great but was willing to take us a day earlier when the weather and viewing would be much better. I can't say I have ever had that happen! He picked us up in a very comfortable vehicle which made the day's travel very easy. The itinerary he planned gave us views of the mountain from pretty much all sides and from places not nearly as many people go to. His insight about the area and the history was tremendous and added greatly to the day. We really could not have asked for anything more in a tour like this and I would not hesitate to recommend him fully to anyone

By far the best way to experience a new area in Tokyo. We went to bunch of places I never could have gone on my own, not only because I didn’t know about them, but also because the menus were all written in Japanese only. We had a great time exploring izakayas and restaurants. We had beer, sake and even green tea infused Shochu. Great way to spend the evening.

Went on this tour with friends and had a great time! I've been to Shibuya a few times before but I am not very familiar with the bars /izakayas in the area. Our guide, Yukino-san, was very accommodative and easy to talk to and overall made the tour a very enjoyable experience. She took us to a neat place frequented by many locals, with an easy-going atmosphere and lots of great food to choose from, so that was a great discovery! Would definitely like to try some of the other tours if I ever get the chance.

Kaori-san was an amazing guide and even though it was new years day, I was able to try many different and delicious foods! Without Kaori's guidance I would not have known where to go, since many places are closed during the new years in Japan. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to try many different cuisines in one day. After the tour I was completely stuffed from trying so many different foods, but it was totally worth it!
