The 10 Best Food & Drink in Willemstad, Curacao

November 13, 2021 Malia Yoakum

The lively capital of Curacao is a welcoming, upbeat destination with two distinct historic districts divided by the lovely St. Anna Bay. Punda, site of neat, narrow streets, is crammed with shops and museums. Otrobanda, or "The Other Side," is a maze of twisting residential streets, contrasting with the organized grid across the bay. Willemstad's colorful colonial architecture has won it UNESCO Heritage site designations. Diving and swimming with dolphins are popular activities in the bay.

We travel to Curacao each January for the past 12 years. Love it! We've done lots of things so this year we were seeking something authentic and different we could share with some friends on their first visit to the island. We got reservations to for the four of us to cook with the "spice girl". Her kitchen was all organized to engage twelve of us that day. Starting with a talk on the food, tasting of ingredients, sharing in different techniques to work with the components, cooking to sitting down to a feast we created. What a great introduction to the island for our friends. What a fun and delicious time for all of us. Made food, friends and learned so much. We will go back next year to try the dinner she hosts and hopefully one time make the special surprise night feast she puts on at a to be announced island location twice a year. Hats off to you my dear! Thanks for a wonderful time. Mark & Ian

Landhuis Chobolobo

Landhuis Chobolobo Country Mansion, also known as the ‘Home of the Genuine Curacao Liqueur’ is a very special Country Mansion. Why? Because the world-famous Blue Curacao Liqueur is produced and bottled there. A visit to the Curacao Liqueur Distillery at Landhuis Chobolobo is a journey through local history. You can experience and learn about the production process of the Genuine Curacao Liqueur and enjoy the taste such as it has been produced since 1896. There are several guided tours available and even a cocktail workshop where you can learn how to make dazzling cocktails with friendly local bartenders.

Two of my friends and I chose to do a private tour of the distillery which ended with 2 included cocktails. Seeing the distillery was very interesting, and the cocktails at the end were delicious! As we sat down to drink our cocktails, busloads of people started arriving to get group tours, so we were very glad we skipped those crowds. Would highly recommend!
