The 10 Best Flea & Street Markets in London, England

February 1, 2022 Marissa Gamble

The crown jewels, Buckingham Palace, Camden Market…in London, history collides with art, fashion, food, and good British ale. A perfect day is different for everyone: culture aficionados shouldn't miss the Tate Modern and the Royal Opera House. If you love fashion, Oxford Street has shopping galore. For foodies, cream tea at Harrod’s or crispy fish from a proper chippy offers classic London flavor. Music and book buffs will love seeing Abbey Road and the Sherlock Holmes Museum (at 221B Baker Street, of course).

Broadway Market

Reviewed By brmusicman - Chicago, United States

I arrived in London on a Saturday morning and, after dropping my bags at the hotel, headed to Broadway Market in East London. It was fairly easy to access via public transit, either the Tube or the London Overground. It was a perfect day for an outdoor market: slightly cool, totally sunny. And Broadway Market did not disappoint. The crowd was oh-so-hip: on the younger side, full of singles, couples, and families enjoying the day out. A fantastic place to people-watch. Perhaps a little awkward as a solo visitor, since so many people were in groups, but everyone was sort of doing their own thing. Very busy but not unpleasantly so--for instance, less busy than the Columbia Road Flower Market (which is also fantastic). Nice mix of vendors: several coffee place;, tons of places to grab lunch, with a range of cuisines; lots of bakeries with delicious treats; and a cool mix of homewares, greeting cards, pottery, jewelry, etc. I had a delicious lunch from a staff serving stews from Ghana, ate a yummy brownie, had a fantastic flat white, and purchase a couple of cool gifts for friends and family. While in the area, I definitely recommend heading over to London Fields and enjoying the large park. Beautiful! Definitely off the beaten path for your typical London tourist, but totally worth a stop on your itinerary. Gets you out into some London neighborhoods and, trust me, it'll make you want to live there.

Total gem, such good food to be had here I can hardly list it all!! The Turkish wraps are a favourite (after having ordered one each we now usually share one as they are massive!) but the curry and salad stalls are also fantastic. Big John's donuts are also delicious, and great value compared to lesser donuts at other markets (I'm looking at you St Johns - £3 for a single donut at Maltby Street?! I don't think so!).
