An authentic insight into hill sheep farming and rural Irish life with working sheepdog demonstrations. Interaction with puppies and sheep shearing demonstration during high season. This is set against some of the most breathtaking scenery in Ireland. Rest room facilities available along with picnic tables for guest use. Scheduled demonstration times are 11am, 1pm and 3.30 pm Monday -Saturday, however alternative times are available by prior arrangement.

This past week my family (9 of us) toured the southeast area of Ireland. We saw some of the most beautiful land and landmarks in the country. We also had the pleasure of visiting Joyce Country Sheepdogs. This visit was overwhelmingly the highlight of our trip. We were warmly greeted by Joe Joyce and his dog Jimmy and were quickly surrounded by the latest litter of Border Collie pups who enchanted us as only 8 week old puppies can! Joe explained to us all that goes into choosing a dog with the qualities necessary to make a good sheep dog, how he begins and progresses through the training process as well as interesting information about the sheep industry itself. His brilliant dog Spot then demonstrated sheep herding as Joe stood with us and gave commands. It was fascinating to experience. I was not prepared for such an interesting and enjoyable experience. The unsurpassed beauty of the countryside, the sound of bleating sheep, the delightful dogs, and the knowledge and kindness of Mr. Joyce made this a trip I heartily recommend.

My husband and I were able to see this wonderful demonstration of sheep herding while travelling with our tour group with Gate 1 Travel as we travelled throughout Ireland. Today, as part of our "Ring of Kerry" day long adventure, we stopped to see Brendan Ferris and his two trained dogs with a herding demonstration. This was very exciting to see Brendan command his dogs and their reactions.

A wonderful three hours awaits you at Blueberry Hill Farm! Yvonne and Sigi are warm, kind and gracious hosts, memorising the children's names from the start and ensuring they're included and enjoying all the fabulous activities they have lined up. Every child is treated as an individual and their needs skilfully and tactfully looked after. Our children, aged 5 and 13, loved it - and we did too! There was lots of hands on with the patient and friendly animals (the rabbits were almost too cute, especially the babies!) for a couple of hours - which flew by - before butter churning, scone baking and candle making. The tour is topped off with a fine spread of the children's scones and butter and some homemade blackcurrant jam. Our children left (dragging their heels) beaming and begging to come back again. Don't let your kids leave Kerry without a trip to this special place!

The drive up to Leenane is absolutely stunning. Once you enter the town of Leenane and see the Fjord you will be blown away, the mountains with the water and the amazing flowers are an unbeatable scene. We took a day trip up to the area on one of our last days in Ireland and wish we would have gone earlier so we could have spent more time there! Killary Sheep Farm is spectacular. We went in May, when it was a little warmer than usual for the time, and had a wonderful experience. There was a tour group of about 30 individuals there, and my girlfriend and I were the only ones there not a part of the tour. Tom took time to answer everyone questions and explain how a sheep farm operates. The best part was toward the end, we got to hold baby sheep and feed them. We feed a sheep that was just born the day before, they are so cute! You get a little bottle that you feed them with and you have one of the most adorable experiences ever. The farm is amazing, the family that runs it are so nice and helpful, and the views are impeccable. This day trip was the highlight of a week long trip all over Ireland. If you are on the west coast, or staying in Galway, make the trip up and have a day you'll always remember.

I visited the farm last year and I did the walk. I loved it so much that I decided to do it again but also to stay in the cabin. I stayed 2 nights and I had an amazing time. The owners are fantastic people, animal lovers and rescuers. Their son Luca is a gem, very nice young man. Alpacas are so cute and friendly. They seem to be very happy and relaxed and very well looked after. The cabin itself is cosy and surrounded by greenery with views on the meadows and Castle ruins. Quiet piece of heaven. We are coming back in October!

My visit to Glen Keen Farm was one of the highlights of my trip to Ireland with CIE Tours. The demonstration of the sheep herding dogs was amazing and the scones were to die for: best I've ever had. Expect outstanding hospitality from the owners and staff. Don't miss this delightful stop on any tour to Ireland.

We had a fantastic morning with Martin and Joe (border collie). Martin was very informative about the dogs and his local area. His love of the dogs, sheep and his local area is very evident. There were a lot of children in our session and he interacted very well with them. Joe and the sheep gave a fantastic demonstration. I would highly recommend Atlantic Sheepdogs for any age.

This place is truly a "hidden gem" and definitely off the beaten track. With Gerard's lived experience, his vast knowledge of Irish history, his easy and informative style combined with the spectacular and rugged beauty of the valley, this is a most unique way to spend three hours on the edge of the Atlantic. Very good value for €20 each. Highly recommended.
