The 10 Best Dinner Theaters in El Centro (Downtown), Capital Federal District

September 24, 2021 Cedrick Jardin

The birthplace of the tango is, like the dance itself, captivating, seductive and bustling with excited energy. Atmospheric old neighborhoods are rife with romantic restaurants and thumping nightlife, and Buenos Aires' European heritage is evident in its architecture, boulevards and parks. Cafe Tortoni, the city's oldest bar, will transport you back to 1858, and the spectacular Teatro Colon impresses just as it did in 1908. Latin America's shopping capital offers the promise of premium retail therapy along its grand, wide boulevards.

Not a place that most North American Tourist find out about. This Tango show is an absolute little gem ...a secret that most traveling Latinos ARE aware of. We were so fortunate to have been recommended this place buy an Argentinian. Very intimate show while you are sitting right around the dance floor. Not the typical " Vegas like" Buenos Aires shows that North American tourists go to view. The dancers teach you also the Tango moves before the show which gives you so much more appreciation to how difficult this dance truly is. One amazing night in Buenos Aires never-to-be-forgotten! Thank you to all of the extraordinary dancers ...what talent you all have!!

We had tango lesson, dinner and enjoyed the show . I was excited about the lesson, but there were many people, we learned only some basics. I was expecting private lesson and learn more . But watching show after the lesson made me appreciate, admire it a lot more . Dancers so great , I wish I could dance like them ???? hard work. We enjoyed limitless wine , steak was also good . Everything was amazing! They also do transfer from hotel and back, included to the price. Highly recommend!

We picked the VIP Tango Lesson, Dinner and Show (it was booked by our hotel, about $120 US pp))--worth every penny! The VIP includes private round-trip transfers so you don't make a lot of stops picking up and dropping off at other hotels. We arrived in time for the Tango Lesson (VIP is the only package that will pick you up in time for the Lesson). The Lesson was about 50 minutes with two of the professional dancers from the show. There were about five couples there and we were all first time Tango dancers so we had a lot of fun with it but really did learn something in the short time. (We learned how amazingly difficult Tango is and how incredible the pros are!) We got 'certificates' and the dancers were happy to take photos with us. The entire fairly large venue was full but the VIP seats we got were the best in the house--first seats, first raised tier, dead center. The VIP food was very good and had more choices (and higher quality?) than the regular dinner that we saw being served. The portions were big and the drinks were all included. The service was excellent. We waved away the photographers trying to take our pictures for a big price since we had photos from the Lesson. As our first Tango show, we enjoyed it immensely. The live orchestra is wonderful. There is a bit of Modern Dance and some dancing based on the Gaucho tradition; but we thought the Tangos were exceptional. They were little story vignettes that were colorful, sad, sweet, sexy, funny, dramatic, etc. The one about the wronged girlfriend was great. It was fun to focus on the male and female dancers that had led our Lesson. This was a great evening of dancing, food and a wonderful show!

El Viejo Almacen

In the neighbourhood of San Telmo it is located the most classic house of tango of all times, El Viejo Almacén. It offers shows since 1969 and preserves the architecture and atmosphere of tango culture. The house has a unique magic in which the cultural barrier between different nationalities ceases to exist and we all joined by one of the greatest expressions of any culture: the language of music. It has a proposal of Dinner & Show, with a menu of international cuisine a la carte and an extensive wine cellar with the best national wines. Then, any member of the public is delighted with an excellent show of tango composed by prestigious dancers, the famous Quintet of El Viejo Almacén and two highly recognized national singers, who play some of the traditional songs of tango´s history. The most acclaimed tango show in the world accompanied by fine cuisine, recalls the bygone era of tango and takes us back to times of outlaws and suburbs in the ground where tango has its roots ... Buenos Aires.

We booked this before we left, emailing Sheila who was very helpful. We were picked up from our hotel and taken to the restaurant which is across the street from the show venue. The ambiance was lovely. We had booked the Traditional three course set meal which we enjoyed with some nice wine. Loved the desserts of Almacen Cake and Flan dulce de leche. The pinnacle of the evening of course was the amazing show featuring Tango, local singers and musicians. A very enjoyable evening and this experience was the highlight of my trip to BA.

Since 1867 this big old house has been established in the historic center of the City. In 1920 it was founded as a bar and then, in 1992 restored; it is now considered by the Museum of the City of Buenos Aires as a “Living Evidence of the Civic Memory” and as a “Place of Tourist Interest” by the National Tourist Secretary.

Had visited this place while on holiday in BA. The place was recommended by the Intercontinental Hotel. We could not have chosen a better show. Although we had only selected the 'show', without dinner, they had given us a table right in front of the stage. The dancers and singers were excellent, really made this a memorable night for us.
