The 10 Best Day Trips from in Valle Central, Valle Central

April 11, 2022 Trinity Boughner

Chile's Valle Central, a verdant valley tucked between the Andes and the coastal mountain ranges, has a mild climate and moist soil perfect for grape growing. Made up of four distinct wine regions, Maipo, Rapel, Curico and Maule, the area is criss-crossed by well-traveled wine roads. At the northern end of the valley is Maipo, the oldest of Chile's wine regions, famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon. At the opposite end is Maule, which still grows Pais, the first grape brought to South America.

We took this tour last year. The guide doesn’t speak English at all, and keep repeating the same information over and over. They also don’t let you move and ask you to be next to them all the time. Amazing place but awful guide

Sean was awesomely the best of the bestest - very highly recommended!!! We toured Valparaiso and Vina del Mar with him, and he dropped us off at Santiago for our cruise embarkation the following day. That was our first trip to South America - our pre-cruise tour, as we cruised Chile, Antarctica, Falkland Islands, Argentina, Uruguay - still so many places to explore in this area. We will definitely come back, and use Sean's company again...

Recently my wife, my daughter and I took a trip to Chile. We were going to be in Santiago for a day in between traveling from Patagonia to San Pedro de Atacama. We were referred to FoodTrip to provide tour guide services as we wanted to spend some time in the wine region and visit Valparaiso. Our day was very full. Keryma was our guide and we could not have been happier. Our day started first visiting a local restaurant for a bite of breakfast. Truly authentic. Then off to a local winery. I have been to many wineries but never had such a wonderful time. This was a very small winery where we were met by the owner. We spent a couple of hours enjoying the day, the wine and the company. How fortunate we were to have had that experience. From the winery we drove to Valparaiso where we had a late lunch at one of the most unique and interesting restaurants in Valparaiso. It is not often one has the experience to have the chef/owner greet you and then prepare super good food to order. Following our lunch was tour of Valparaiso. I wished we would have had more time there. So to sum it up, if you are looking for the local experience with excellent guide services I highly recommend FoodTrip. A special thank you to Keryma. My wife, my daughter and I feel we made a very good friend.

We will leave early in the morning from Santiago to Cajon del Maipo. After an hour of travel we will begin our route in a beautiful path where we can observe native flora and fauna and meet mysterious pre-Hispanic petroglyphs. Halfway we will arrive at an esplanade from where we will have privileged views of the Andes, leaving behind the part with greater unevenness and difficulty. Now the route becomes easier until reaching an imposing viewpoint on a cliff where we will have the possibility to see magnificent condors, one of the largest birds on earth, in addition to beautiful views of the imposing Andes Mountains that will leave us without words before the immense beauty of nature at 2031 meters high.

Alupran provided a wonderful experience for my wife and me. They took us in their well-equipped SUV to Baños Morales,a picturesque village deep in the Maipo Valley. From there, we initiated our trek to Laguna Morales. Marvellous views awaited us from start to finish. We seemingly paused every few steps to take pictures of the imposing Andes Mountains. The trek was long enough to be tiring but totally worth the views and the sense of accomplishment after completion. Alupran's guides were wonderful and felt like family friends. We got a great introduction into Chilean culture and natural history. Highly recommended for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a beautiful trek near Santiago!

Carla and Brian were amazing guides and provided informed and entertaining commentary for our trip out to Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar. Communication prior to hotel pick up was great and we had a relaxing time walking the cobble-stoned streets of Valparaiso learning the history and taking in the street art. We had lunch at Vina Del Mar with local beers and Pisco sour cocktails!! Highly recommend this tour or any other tour with Discover Santiago- we would have like to have ventured into the mountains, however, COVID-19 had other plans for us and we had to return to Australia following the cancellation of our holiday.

We go to Cajón del Maipo early and stop for breakfast on the banks of the Embalse El Yeso. With peace of mind, you can enjoy the place, while our team serves coffee with artisanal and quality products. As if that were not enough, we continued our tour until the end of Valle del Yeso, arriving at Termas del Plomo, located 100 km from Santiago and almost 3,000m above sea level. A unique landscape, in the heart of the Andes! You can enter the thermal waters, at a temperature of approximately 30 degrees, while our team prepares a barbecue (vegetarian or vegan option, giving advance notice). On this route we only use 4x4 vehicles, as it is the safest way to do this type of excursions. The tour runs from November to May (we do not go to Embalse El Yeso during the winter, for security reasons), from Monday to Friday (except national holidays), and suitable for over 7 years of age.

Inclusions: Breakfast, Local taxes, Lunch, Embalse el Yeso and Termas del Plomo tickets., Individual adventure tourism insurance
