The 10 Best Day Trips from in Portimao, Algarve

September 30, 2021 Cedrick Jardin

Portimao is a sailor’s delight, thanks to its calm waters and beautiful conditions. Plenty of elite international competitions happen here, but you don’t have to be a professional to set sail. Cruising the coast on the double-masted Santa Bernarda pirate ship is a family favorite. On dry land, you can wander the lovely Alvor boardwalk, enjoy a succulent seafood meal or zip around the go-kart track at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

The scenery was nice, the roads were beautiful, we got to meet a donkey too! They should say that you get really dusty during the trip and not to wear any white clothes. However we really enjoyed our guide and the buggy was really pleasant to ride in. Thank you Extremo Ambiente!

The Alentejo, already considered the best wine region in the world to visit by the readers of USA Today and often referred and recommended in expertized publications, is an inevitable destination in Portugal for wine lovers This idilic and rural region is an invitation to relaxation and delight. It impresses immediatelly you enter it and drive through its flat lands and small hills, surrounded by agricultural fields of vines, flowers, cork and olive trees, pastures full of cattle and much more The region has old traditions in the wine production and a troubled story made of advances and retreats, but in the last decades has affirmed its full potential as wine region of excellence and arrives to the present day as a main actor in the panorama of portuguese wines. Without a plan, 4 friends and I went on a day trip to Sintra in March. Already got off the train some guides were waiting and wanted to lead us through Sintra. But we wanted coffee first. On the way to the cafeteria, another guide offered us his tour - but we went on. Because we wanted coffee. However, this guide did not let up and so we booked a tour with him after the coffee. Not knowing that this day would be the funniest of our semesters abroad, we set off on the trip. Ruben showed us untouristic places, combined with a lot of knowledge which he taught us. Spontaneously we went to cabo da roca - unbelievable! All in all a wonderful day with great experiences! Highly recommended! Thank you Ruben!

Spend half day exploring the unknown Algarve in our jeeps and the rest of the day enjoying a relaxing cruise along the River Arade! Let us take you off the beaten track and into the heart of the Algarve! In a convoy of jeeps we travel up hills and down dales, crossing streams and traversing meadows. Learn about the different flora and fauna and see some of the old customs still in practice - the traditional way of making of honey and distilling of medronho - a very potent local drink which you will have the chance to sample. A tasty lunch is provided in a pleasant and typical restaurant. After lunch it’s time to enjoy a relaxing cruise along the River Arade. The Arade reaches the sea at the town of Portimão - in ancient times and still today, an important commercial port. As you cruise along the river you can enjoy the lush scenery, the soothing sound of birdsong, the river wildlife and the hypnotic lapping of the water against the boat.

Inclusions: Private transportation, Lunch

Seeing the coastline from the sea is an adventure in itself. The caves are strange but beautiful. The boat and crew are in good shape, and everybody tries is best to help you. I need some help getting in and out the small boat, and that was fine. You have to take the music on the boat as it is, I could have done without it. I could have stayed on the Ophelia all day!
