Ewen Maddock Dam

Before we even moved into the locality we spent many weekends at the dam. Perfect for a swim or kayak, it has the most amazing view over the huge watery expanse. It has seats, bbq's and a sandy shore to enjoy. You can walk through the forest path next to the water and enjoy the bird life. Great for families with the small play park and toilet block too. We have had many a kids birthday party here as it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Wivenhoe Dam

A short drive out of Brisbane City Council limits awaits a wonderful lake full of birdlife and marine creatures. We took the kids to a picnic there and they played in the water, finding little fish and even a baby turtle! It was a little hard for our youngest who wanted to have the turtle as a pet when we told him it stays in its habitat. A very clean, peaceful place to just let 'time pass', and the amenities are excellent if you wish for a BBQ/larger group. Just remember to leave only footprints and take away memories.

Big Dam

The dam is really low and in drought conditions but a little shower of rain before we arrived in Mt Morgan had greened up the surrounds. It's a lovely spot, shady, clean, lots of spots to sit, we took breakfast there a couple of mornings and walked our dog in peaceful settings around the dam. Lots of bike riders and people strolling around. When this dam is full it would be a spectacular place to visit. :-)

As a long time local, and stockist of Copperlode Dam with barra, Kim has a vested interest in providing a great service to select numbers of people. It is a great balancing act that he has successfully achieved. My wife and I had a lovely 3 hr guided trip, enough barra caught to get us over our NT cravings :-)

Callide Dam

Reviewed By H6707XElauram - Rockhampton, Australia

There's a playground with beautiful views of the water as well as plenty of picnic tables and amenities. There are some lookouts around the area to get different views of the dam and power station, however, they are better accessed in a 4WD and the views not worth the trouble of getting there.
