Argentine Cooking Classes

Reviewed By willbebroke - Reisterstown, United States

We recently started our trip to Patagonia in Buenos Aires . While here, I wanted to experience all the city had to offer and learning to make empanadas was one of them . As we were only there for 2 nights, I was having difficulty locating a class on the days I was there . I reached out to Norma about the possibility of a private class and to my surprise , she was able to accommodate us! She is quick to respond , so flexible , warm and kind . When we found out long lost friends would be in Argentina the same time as us and wanted to join in , Norma was flexible in allowing them to join us also . We met at her lovely home and made lentil stew , empanadas , and alfajores ( delicious cookies with dulche de leche). I especially loved that the empanadas are baked , not fried !The highlight was sitting down to lunch to eat everything ! All the food was AMAZING. We also had delicious argentine wines and mate- learning all About the traditions and culture . We learned so much and Norma even gave us recipes to make these at home . Once this pandemic is over , I’ll be be entertaining again and will Be making all these delicious things . This was truely a highlight for us in our trip - don’t miss this if you want a true taste of the argentine culture . Thank you Norma ! Stay safe ❤️

FC BAFA (Buenos Aires Futbol Amigos)

Buenos Aires Futbol Amigos is for those of you in Buenos Aires not content with merely watching or talking about the nation’s favorite sport but actually playing! Hour-long, 5-a-side games are organized throughout the week and playing levels vary from beginner to seasoned-pro. Games are usually competitive but always good-natured. You may also stick around for post-game beers, delicious asado's and more! We hope to see you on the pitch!

Having not done any exercise for a couple weeks, I was very eager to play a soccer game so I could offset all the steak and empanadas I've been eating. It was very easy to sign up for a game and the location is ideal if you are staying in Palermo. My favorite part was how seamlessly BAFA brings together locals, expats and people who are simply passing through Buenos Aires. If you're a decent soccer player and looking for a game that is both fun and competitive this will be a great experience for you.

Alejandro and Juju are truly fantastic tango teachers and are a great team. I stayed at Alejandro’s tango apartments and took my course of ten lessons in-house in its lovely studio of classical yesteryear charm. During my lessons Alejandro and Juju paid great attention to my every dance detail, breaking down my movements to basics, and reconstructing me LEGO-style in order to achieve the correct embrace, posture, movement, weight shifts and connection. I’m ever so grateful for their tireless correction and reiteration of all the elements important for me to achieve seemingly effortless movement in my tango. I’m now seeing the benefits of my lessons and exercises that were taught, as my body is now more relaxed while dancing, my feet do not ache as much, and the whole experience of tango is a more enjoyable connection to be had. After each lesson, one can very easily walk to nearby El Beso, to practise on the unsuspecting ! I highly recommend learning with Alejandro and Juju. Together they radiate an inner calm, and impart a traditional style of tango that is graceful and grounded, at one with the music. Not only are they great teachers, but also wonderful people, very warm and welcoming. I felt very much at home during my stay and got to know them both to be wonderful friends. The location of these apartments is central, with milongas closeby, supermarkets, eateries and day to day amenities within the neighbourhood itself. A very convenient place to stay! So after these fantastic few weeks of tango lessons and endless milongas, I hope to continue the tango journey!

Vamos Spanish Academy

Vamos Spanish Academy is a well-rounded Spanish language school perfectly located between the two most dynamic neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, Recoleta and Downtown financial district and with schools in Toronto, Santiago Chile, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Our small intensive group classes and our own customized materials allow students to truly practice and learn in a clear, relevant and effective way. The many activities and workshops take you outside the classrooms and live the language! The school is also very eco-friendly and runs various donation initiatives so students can participate and help make a difference while learning Spanish and traveling in Argentina.

I spent 6 weeks at Spanish at Vamos Academy, and I liked it a lot. I started learning Spanish from scratch with the goal to roughly understand and being able to communicate with locals, which is what I was able to achieve. When I had an issue with my learning process, they listened attentively and were eager to help find a solution which would fit for both sides. The staff is really helpful, friendly and determined to make your stay at Vamos as comfortable as possible. In addition, there are organized activities during the week where you are able to connect with other students & learn about Buenos Aires and the Argentine culture. The school has good vibes, good people and was a great experience, I would definitely recommend Vamos.
