We spent a week with all of our family in Wellington & took them to Sandbanks Provincial Park a number of times as they all loved the wonderful sandy beach & facilities The Grandchildren loved it & had a great time. It is so large & safe for the children as it is shallow for a long ways. Bring chairs & umbrellas & sunscreen.

Point Petre Wildlife Conservation Area

While a simple beach on Lake Ontario, it is right next to CFB Picton Training area where in the 1950's, models of the Avro Arrow were launched to test wing shapes.

We love going to Point Petre, no matter what time of year, it's beautiful. Unfortunately, hunters have been going there and not picking up their shot gun shells. It's sad to see all the garbage all over the beach. My kids decided to reuse the shells to make a beach Christmas tree was the best thing to do...

The property features a restored century Barn suitable for special events, a Barrel House offering live demonstrations weekly and daily tastings of Local Barrel Aged Wine Vinegars, Fruit Vinegars & Reductions, Giant Oak Sherry Casks, a Make-Your-Own-Wine facility located in the cellar of the Tasting Centre and now Gourmet Wood Fired Pizza served outback amongst the vines. Recipient of the Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence, Black Prince has produced fine wines for over 15 years and are proud to be one of the oldest County wineries with a well-appointed Tasting Centre. The Estate vineyard includes Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and some hybrids. Black Prince was the first to use local County oak barrels to age their wines and vintage after vintage the wines receive awards nationally and internationally. On a day trip to Prince Edward County, we happened upon "The Local Store" a wonderful store (converted from a barn) displaying hundreds of locally made crafts, art works, books, preserves and many other delectable or intriguing items. The staff are friendly and helpful, but not pushy at all. While the address indicates Picton, it's much closer to the eastern end of West Lake.

A nice short ferry ride on a scenic drive from Picton to Kingston. The 12ish car ferry leaves about every 15 minutes. You can walk, bike, or drive across.
