The 10 Best Budget-friendly Things to do in Mendoza, Cuyo

March 9, 2022 Tonie Szymanski

Known best for its wine, Mendoza is a bustling city to the east of Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Western Hemisphere. Although it draws its share of adventure travelers, lured by the climbing, skiing, hiking and rafting opportunities within an easy drive of downtown, the area’s more than 1,000 vineyards bring oenophiles in even greater numbers.

I went to Renacer on a private tour and had a great experience. The guide at the site was a friendly, smiling woman who showed me and two other visitors their cellars and landscaped grounds as well as vineyards, and also sat down with me for a tasting of three of their wines. It was a memorable experience in a beautiful setting.

Los Pingos Horse Riding

We believe in equestrian tours as a way to know a wonderful animal, the horse, and at the same time to interact with our culture, the gaucho life in the mountain and other people of the world. We like to share our traditions through the guitar and singing around the bonfire after a delicious “asado”.Activities:½ day - Full day - Sunset - Full Moon

Had a great experience with Los Pingos! We selected the sunset horseback ride with BBQ following and wow...gorgeous setting! Our guide was excellent (took some cool photos for us!) and the meal following the ride was quite tasty! The price was very reasonable for the long horseback ride, food and drink, and transfer service. Highly recommend!

Bodega La Azul

Reviewed By 790henryk

After 2 weeks in hectic Buenos Aires, we embarked on a degustation tour around the lovely city of Mendoza - west of B.A., and near the Chilean border. But after a while, we staled with the constant presentation of haute-cuisine, personality-free restaurants, and were then driven by our sympathetic and knowledgeable guide, Xavier, to La Azul Winery, in the famous Uco Valley. Bingo!! Real food at last! Delicious Choripan (the genius who invented this simple snack, used for every conceivable occasion possible, should be given a medal). It's Chorizo sausage sliced and barbecued, in a bread bun, with the famous Chimichurri sauce - the rightful ambrosia of South America. Then follows the asado (main course barbequed meats) - scrumptious! And then there's the wine - Mendoza is world-renowned for it's 900 wineries in the area, and especially for the gorgeous wines made from the red Malbec grape variety. La Azul makes several wines, but notably their Cabernet-Malbec flagship blend, and an outstanding unoaked pure Malbec (this is a must try!). Well, with all that terrific food and excellent wine down the hatch, and an unyielding eyeful of those stunning, snow-capped Andes Mountains, you feel a lot closer to your god - an everlasting experience. La Azul is a simple winery: easy to drive past. But search among the plainness carefully, and you will find gold. For us, just this single experience, with all else to see in Argentina, is the one that's most fondly remembered.

Bodega Cruzat. Bubbles Experience

Cruzat is a winery intended only for the production of quality sparkling wines, produced using the traditional method or "champenoise" (second fermentation in the bottle). The winery was founded in 2004 by a group of Chilean businessmen and by Argentinian Agricultural Engineer and Winemaker Pedro Federico Rosell. WINE TOURISM The experience of knowing this "factory of sparkling" goes beyond a tour and tasting. From the winery we strive for visitors to learn, identify and compare with other elaborations and process. The production area is open to our curious visitors; you can see and sometimes work at the cellar, the disgorging machine and label some bottles. The tasting room is oriented to the Andes Mountain and vineyards. We propose that our visitors enjoy and learn from what we do every day.

This little gem was a great experience even with my 2 kids. We arrived and had lunch with the most amazing food and wine at a very good price. The man servering us (Daniel) was able to explain in Spanish and English and gave great attention to our kids and took them to feed the fish in the pond they have. His service was outstanding. After a quick lay in the hammocks outside then off to a wonderful tour with Freddie who's English was very good and the tour was so informative. Nothing was too much and they even called taxis for us to get home. Super recommendable ..

We were lucky enough to be introduced to this gentleman and his wine in 2017. Tonight, we celebrated a milestone but sadly finished the last bottle we brought back from our trip. The whole experience of visiting Bodega Carmelo Patti proved to be one of the greatest highlights on the best vacation we've ever taken. Carmelo is authentic, earnest, and friendly. He crafts incredible wine that tastes all the better because you feel like he's an old friend and that you're part of his family within minutes of arriving. This is a spot worth seeking out if you're in or near Mendoza, and if you enjoy wine, look for a bottle wherever you can find it. You won't be disappointed.
