Paramoor Winery

Paramoor Winery was established in 2005 by Will Fraser, and is already one of the most popular and awarded wineries in the Macedon Ranges.A boutique operation, Paramoor Winery is not about mass production. Quality always comes before quantity – and there is quality in everything the winery does. From the meticulous selection of grapes for Paramoor’s wine, to the perfectly elegant homemade pizzas that are served at the cellar door, every detail is considered… and the results speak for themselves. In just a short time Paramoor’s wines have attracted international recognition, with high praise coming from the likes of Australia’s most recognised wine critic, James Halliday, who has awarded Paramoor 5 stars and called Paramoor an ‘excellent producer of very high quality wines’ and has judged several Paramoor wines to be among the best in the nation. Paramoor Winery’s cellar door tasting and sales area, converted from old stables, draws a crowd as much for its relaxed ambience and thoughtful displays of history, as for its outstanding wines and pizza. A visit to Paramoor is a must for anyone touring the picturesque Macedon Ranges. Paramoor Winery ….. award winning wines, great food, and a cellar door that is fast becoming the most talked about in the region.

This is a rustic experience that we loved. Wine tasting is in a large barn on an old couch with few visitors to compete with. The owner loves his craft and is happy to take visitors through his range. We enjoyed the pinots, both red and white, and left with a case at $25 per bottle. Very enjoyable

Malmsbury Viaduct

Reviewed By Victorianlad - Melbourne, Australia

I have been across this viaduct numerous times on a V/Line train but when we visited midweek during November 2020, my friend and I found that V/Line had shut the line for 15 days for maintenance. Going by the demeanour of 'workers' near Elphinstone sttaion, not much work was occurring, typical for an organisation that ha slost its focus with the recent sacking of its CEO for alleged corruption. The viaduct is best viewed from a minor road off the old Calder Highway that leads to a nature reserve, and then one can walk along a track adjacent to the famous aqueduct that we were pleased to see is flowing (in previous years it has often lacked any water, but rainfall in 2020 has been excellent). The resultant photos are worthwhile. Standing underneath the viaduct makes one wonder at how incredibly bright the railway engineers were in 1860, given that they lacked today's surveying and heavy earthmoving equipment. The navvies had to rely upon picks, shovels and backbreaking labour, and scaffolding compared to today's was probably dangerous and we would say substandard. But they perservered with this 'main line' being built to a wonderfully high standard although it caused a financial drain on the accounts of the post-gold rush colony of Victoria. These men who built the railway deserve our huge thanks.

Hanging Rock Reserve

Reviewed By TRPoly - Traralgon, Australia

What a great place to visit, the walk to the summit is pretty easy (although quite steep at times) and once there, there are so many lookouts. Take the time to find each points of interest, it makes for a fun day and it'll ensure you get to see the many angles there are to see! We returned the following day to get some better photos (the 1st day was cloudy) and still managed to see parts we didn't see the 1st day. Tip for the people who want to enjoy the scenery and ambiance of the reserve... Get there early before the bus loads of families with their screaming kids...lol ????????

Visiting the railway station is not for everyone but if you admire the old bluestone structures from the past then this is worth a visit. It is in immaculate condition and fits in well with the environment.
