The 10 Best Breweries in New Zealand, New Zealand

January 15, 2022 Joeann Galban

New Zealand (/njuːˈziːlənd/ ( listen); Māori: Aotearoa [aɔˈtɛaɾɔa]) is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses—the North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui), and the South Island (Te Waipounamu)—and around 600 smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans. During its long period of isolation, New Zealand developed a distinct biodiversity of animal, fungal and plant life. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks, such as the Southern Alps, owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland.

Good beer tasting and a lovely setup. We unfortunately went on a rainy day so the outdoor seating was not as pleasant as if it had been sunnier but service and experience was still good despite weather. We both preferred the Garden of Eden Farmhouse ale best. We also split the Brezel (soft pretzel with olive oil and mustard) and Brew grain crackers and baked Camembert. The crackers and cheese was the BEST! They really use every bit of the grain used in brewing that they can and it is so tasty! Grounds are also kid friendly and we saw plenty of people bring theirs.

Every time I visited this beautiful country, I made certain I would stop in at the Taupo Brewery. During my first visit, 2015, I met the owner. He was incredibly receptive to welcoming me and sharing the Brewery’s history as well as pertinent information about New Zealand. I was fortunate enough to visit the next couple years, and I was surprised when he recognized me. The selection of adult beverages available will cover anyone’s taste, and don’t forget to get some to go! And, the food is made as is the brews, perfectly! Looking forward to my next trip to NZ!

Having spent hours on our bikes, (the cycle trail goes right past the brewery) we stopped for a quick drink - staff really friendly, very relaxed atmosphere, great views, and loved the ginger beer. Returned the next day with family and shared the experience. Lovely views too. Will definitely visit again when in the area.

Restaurant food is wonderful. This chef certainly knows food and how to prepare it, their speciality is creating fantastic flavours that enhance the main ingredients. What fantastic food, Garlic and Chilli Prawns wow, and the vegetarian pizza best I've ever tasted including that prepared in the best places in Naples, Italy. Keep up the fantastic work. Make sure you visit and enjoy the food, brewery tour is a bonus.
