Lac de Nantua

Reviewed By periandro - Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

The Nantua Lake is a natural one of glacial origin. It’s a huge mass of water covering more than 140 hectares though the original glacier area was much larger than the lake nowadays. Its depth is also considerable. It’s surrounded by mountains with limestone cliffs, the whole forming a magnificent landscape worth being beheld for a long while what, among other things, may infuse spiritual peacefulness. In order to get that feeling one should betake himself far from the road bordering some parts of the lake so as to shun any disturbance caused by the cars’ engine noise. It’s a good place for bathing and swimming but when doing so it’s advisable not to remain by the margins where the water is mostly muddy or turbid. Therefore, it’s much better to go swimming to the middle of the lake. This is also suitable for fishing, sailing and pedalo boating.
