The Lighthouse team are passionate about providing a beautiful, welcoming and safe place for families, friends, couples and solo travellers alike to enjoy. The Lighthouse is itself a Grade II listed country Guest House set in 30 acres of Parkland offering 4 star Sliver Accolade Bed & Breakfast Accommodation and Conference Facilities. The award winning on-site Cafe, Cafe Nouveau, serves freshly made refreshments and hot food daily, catering for all kinds of dietary preferences including vegetarian, vegan, gluten and dairy free diets . We are situated close to the Mendip Hills, Longleat Safari Park and Stourhead, within easy reach of the City of Bath, Wells, Bristol and Cheddar Gorge. We gained our 4 star Silver Accolade Award from Visit England for the 3rd year running for our high quality family friendly accommodation, facilities and service. We love welcoming people from all over the world to this beautiful part of Somerset.
We were a party of 5 adults and two very young children (1 and 2 years); the accommodation was lovely; probably beaten only by the surroundings. The children were kept occupied by the small park area and green space. We also took up the suggestion of having our takeout meal from TOOL & GAUGE Cafe - which was great and a real highlight of the break - sitting in the sun to eat it. Great location if you are visiting Longleat, enjoy a bit of a swim in the morning and/or love to sit back and enjoy a wonderful view. I am a wheelchair user; my personal experience was mixed but I had understood that before I went which is credit to the owners 'The Lighthouse is registered for part time wheel chair users because of the lack of easy level access to all our facilities. Sure we can work out a way that suits you though' So letting me know but then offering me help - this sought of honesty is valued. If you are a wheelchair user I hope this helps; I use a manual slim wheelchair; bedroom was good and easy to navigate; bathroom of a good size for turning; good shower space with what felt like a safe/wide fixed shower chair; grab rails around the toilet. Parking can be arranged right behind the accessible room (with rear entrance then to the bedroom). Internally the venue is hard to navigate and I think this is why the access is not fully suited to all wheelchair users - there are a few steps) BUT you can alternatively go outside the building and access the dining area through the rear double doors, but again you have two external steps, I think the Lighthouse would be able to support wheelchair users if they created two sympathetically designed ramps in order to access the dining room from the rear (the cafe next door has achieved this, by doing so they would hugely benefit from not just wheelchair users but their friends and family in feeling they could book with ease. It would also help support the great work the Lighthouse has already done in making the bedroom/bathroom accessible. If they had the ramps in place I would definitely come back along with my extended family - beautiful place, very warm welcome and fab views.

iption: The Edgar Townhouse is a small friendly guest house located on Great Pulteney Street in the centre of Bath. The house was designed in the classical Georgian style by the architect Thomas Baldwin, and lies on the former estate of Sir William Johnston Pulteney who developed the land and gave his name to the street. The Edgar Townhouse is named after King Edgar who was crowned the first King of England. Edgar was crowned in Saxon monastery, which was destroyed and is now replaced by the abbey, which is a short walk from the guesthouse. When UNESCO designated Bath a World Heritage site put Bath on a par architecturally with the great beauties of Florence and Rome.Great Pulteney Street one of Europe's most magnificent avenues designed by Thomas Baldwin. At one end of Great Pulteney Street is Pulteney Bridge, which was modelled by Robert Adam on the famous Ponte Vecchio in Florence. Walk over this bridge and you are in the centre of Bath, close to the Roman Baths, the pump rooms and the famous Royal Crescent and Victoria Park.Bath is a city of all seasons.
The Edgar Townhouse is in a great location, near the Pulteney Bridge and therefore smack in the center. The place was very clean, staff was very friendly and the breakfast was great, too. Debbie was fantastic. My room got cleaned daily, and everything was provided that I needed. I would go there again at anytime.

Amazing place. So much history and character. Food was amazing and the Buddha bowl amazed my wife. Sam was our waitress and was very friendly and knowledgable. We were shown this place by a friend who has been visiting it over the last 40 years and it just has lots of charm. Would suit everyone, can’t fault it.

Very comfortable and welcoming Boutique B&B. Rooms were lovely, classic furnishings in bedroom and modern clean shower room. Owners/staff friendly and accommodating. Parking not a problem, was given a permit for our whole stay and beyond checking out time. Breakfast room light and airy and food very good and plentiful. Quiet area for a restful night and an easy short walk to Bath city centre. Would definitely consider staying here again should the occasion arise.

In a very good position short walk to the few Bath attractions. Room although advertised as small basement room description should have been very small with a tiny shower room and saniflo toilet so not connected to the mains . Grounds thank heavens were nice to sit out in with nice weather, we didn't have breakfast so can not comment. The price for 3 nights stay a little excessive, apart from its position to town we would not have booked this in hine sight, the owners were friendly enough.

Booked by phoning the inn on the off chance as showing fully booked on line for the Wednesday night. Really hospitable landlord. We arrived too late for dinner, but he made us an amazing sandwich anyway. I shared a twin (which is also a dog friendly room) with my daughter (20) the room was immaculately clean and well stocked with tea and coffee. The beds incredibly comfy with lovely white bed linen. The bar area is lovely and cosy, lots of soft furnishings dampen the sound which was great for my daughter who wears hearing aids. It is a shame that only continental breakfast is offered, however I fully understand the cost of bringing someone in to cook and clear would be prohibitive as it is only a small establishment. We had already made plans to have a cooked breakfast at Boston Tea Party in Bath which does an excellent breakfast so it didn’t matter. I will definitely be returning.

Staff couldn't do enough to help and were friendly and efficient. Would definitely stay here again. Ideal location for a few days sightseeing!

We visited for 2 nights in June, Brookes is in a great location with the town centre no more that about 5 to 10 mins walk, the Royal Crescent is just a 2 minute walk away. Parking is limited but there was a spare permit when we arrived so managed to park about 30 seconds away on Marlborough street. We had a fantastic stay, all staff were super polite and attentive, the breakfast in the morning was to a high standard with plenty of options to choose from. The bed was comfy and the room was spotlessly clean, all in all we had a fantastic 2 nights and would happily recommend staying here if visiting Bath.
