Wonderful place to stay!

We recently stayed in a one bedroom apartment and it was lovely! Very comfortable and clean, spacious bedroom, closet and bathroom with modern fixtures. The kitchen is equipped and features a fridge and freezer, 4 burner gas stovetop and a small oven so we were able to prepare some of our own meals and snacks. Breakfast is available for purchase for a very reasonable fee and is delicious and includes some homemade cakes and sweets also. There is also free parking and wifi available. We loved Spello and enjoyed the fact that it is only about a 15 minute walk into town. There are lots of restaurants and shops in town as well as the historic buildings, churches, etc. It is an excellent location as a base to take day trips to other towns and cities with a car. Spello has a well-serviced train station. We took the train from Spello to florence one day- very convenient. We also enjoyed the lovely pool and the view from the pool features the town of Spello, absolutely gorgeous! Americo and Della are lovely hosts and very accommodating. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here and highly recommend it.

Palazzo Bocci

Palazzo Bocci, which opened as a hotel in 1992, has paintings by Benvenuto Crispoldi and an architectural style that is enlivened by in-between floors, split-levels and niches. The building offers its guests surroundings and rooms that evoke an atmosphere of rare beauty, such as the fountain at the entrance, the hanging garden with two century-old palm trees, the spectacular Hall of Frescoes, the rooms, the luxurious suites, plus views and hidden corners that the Hotel Palazzo Bocci jealously preserves as if they were a treasure.

Need for improvement

It is advertised as a "Palazzo", this is quite misleading. It does have a nice frescoed room, but otherwise this hotel is quite dumpy. Parking is free across the road, breakfast dissapointing. They did have a nice seating area in the garden. I think this place used to be quite something in its day. It is now badly in need of an upgrade however. The rooms are also particularly void of any charm.

we had a very distressing experience while travelling on the train from Spello to Perugia. Having purchased our tickets from the machine on Spello station we boarded the train. A female inspector appeared and on presenting our tickets "Cant you read English. On the back of the ticket was a warning that if the ticket was not validated a fine might ensue. Said female then demanded 31 Euros each from me and my travelling companion. The tickets cost 13 Euros in total. We had to pay 62 Euros ,an obviously totally disproportionate penalty for a simple mistake. Million Dollar View

We spent two nights here with another couple, returning to Spello because we love the area, but wanting to appreciate the green hills and nature of the area. The view from our room was heaven. Overall, this B&B is charmingly designed and professionally run. It's a great spot for those who are hiking and biking. The rooms are well-designed, thoughtful and basic. Bathrooms were exceptionally roomy with new and excellent fixtures. Good variety at breakfast. Tiziana, owner and manager, is friendly, helpful and informative. Our only gripe was the mattress, though new, was a bit uncomfortable for our middle-aged spines. But over all, this was a delightful stay and a true value.

AVOID!!!!

Arrival at the hotel reception we were met by a rude lady that after asking for our passports, stated we could pick up them up three hours later. Said she needed to put in our information. Returned three hours later, it was still not ready. Paid extra for an updated/deluxe room with terrace. We received a tired old room that was not clean and a shared terrace with three other rooms. Weather was warm and air-conditioning was turned off. Went to the front desk and she refused to turn it on, said she was cold. She then said we could just open up the patio doors. Well, couldn't do that without hearing other guests on the shared patio or smelling smoke from their cigarettes. There was also a smoke stack from the kitchen on our patio which we smelled constantly. Not to mention it was not safe to have doors open with other guests having access. What a bad experience, avoid this hotel!!!
