Bloody glorious! What a super evening. HUGE thank you to Pam for looking after / bearing with us all this evening. The food was Shuzzy, fresh and tasty - just delightful and the atmosphere was lovely. Pam - who juggled more than her fair share of tables, literally smashed service and provided the most glorious happy making evening. Highly recommend. Do visit please! xxx

Outstanding in every way

This place is a little piece of heaven! Thoughtfully and beautifully restored with the guest spec fixtures and fittings throughout by Alex & Rachel who go above and beyond as hosts; from the beautiful fresh flowers and cream cakes on arrival to four ft thick towels, crisp bed linen and every inch was spotlessly clean. We loved the rainfall shower, underfloor heating, fire, remote velux blinds, LUXURY hot tub and the biggest most comfortable bed and pillows! We loved spending time with the dogs Koko and Moss in their pen area and enjoyed the peace and quiet. We were given complete privacy, there’s lots of parking, lots of local amenities and a superb location for exploring the Peak District. An exceptional B&B, you will not be disappointed.

Fantastic service, staff here are superb

I arranged a 3-day work conference here, including accommodation for several colleagues. We also booked a larger meeting room and lunch on our final day to which several additional people were invited. Everything we asked for was provided, including a few unexpected on-the-spot requirements such as an instant vegetarian lunch and some urgent printing of documents as well as additional pillows. My main contact was Emma, who provided excellent customer service way beyond what could ever be expected. The whole team couldn't have been more helpful in every way - there was always someone available (usually Emma, at all hours!) to sort out any minor issues including during the evenings. The rooms are certainly basic but were clean and equipped with everything we needed, and were certainly good value for money. I can't fault anything about this place and the service is way better than many 5-star hotels.

Innkeeper's Lodge Hathersage

Just three miles from the historic village of Hathersage, this charming country lodge dates back to 1773 and is one of the cosiest hotels in the Peak District. What's more, it's only a short drive from Sheffield and Chesterfield. The lodge, which you'll find within the Longshaw estate, offers 9 comfy, characterful rooms, a menu of hearty, seasonally inspired food, and a wide range of regularly changing cask-ales and well-chosen wines. Longshaw is a lovely place with many hidden gems: spectacular views, ancient oak woods, sleepy meadows, heather moorland, archeological treasures and millstone quarries. Locals will proudly tell you that it's also home to the oldest continuous sheep-dog trials in the country. If you've brought your walking boots, head for Hathersage - a great place to start your exploration of the area's intriguing rock formations. The area is a haven for walking and climbing, but it's also a popular with swimmers. That's because it's lucky enough to have its own heated outdoor swimming pool, set within a lawned enclosure and usually open from March through to September. There are plenty more pursuits to keep you busy, with Chatsworth House, Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Sheffield Ski Village and the ancient village of Eyam all on the doorstep.

Stains of dubious origin. Dirty. Hidden filth. Now we know why they take your money 24 hours in advance and refuse refunds! Environmental health may probably be paying a visit soon! Felt unsafe in the property to confront the unwelcoming staff. Not confident about other issues of safety reasons Covid precautions. Booking.com liaised, but still no refund. Disgusting!

Lovely old world venue. Not perfect, but rather good nevertheless.

Two night stay for a family wedding. From the outset we were impressed by the location of this stone built hotel, overlooking the valley. Blessed with decent weather, the sun making an appearance for the ceremony on the bandstand, the outside space is brilliant. The hotel itself is very much old world charm, so if you want sharp, ultra modern, this is not for you. It suited us nicely. The rooms are comfortable and quite clean, although hairs in the bath were a bit of a turn off. My partner is a former hotel executive housekeeper so doesn’t miss much. But that and a couple of other minor issues did not detract from two good nights sleep. The conservatory for breakfast, the bar areas and the barn for the reception were all well appointed and cared for. The staff were, despite the long hours and busy schedules, all remarkably affable. Breakfast both days was plentiful, well prepared and certainly tasty. The wedding meal and buffet later were similarly enjoyable.

Disappointed

Reviewed By NOTanImbecile

Very disappointed. Paying for a B&B without getting any breakfast. Trying to get advantage of people and pretending a room is worth £300! Even Hilton's not that expensive! Shameful! Avoid please!!! Rooms were not cleaned once by the staff but by ourselves. So money orientated!!! Run away please! Better hotels with better prices around!

3 night stay great hospitaility

Stayed at the Royal Hotel whilst visiting family in the area. Room was small but very clean and comfortable. Breakfasts freshly cooked and very tasty. Same goes for the steak and kidney pie one evening. Dave and Jo made me feel very welcome and unhesitatingly offered help with their own supply when I ran out of covid tests. Honest to goodness hospitality at its best.

We have just returned from our 2nd stay at Devonshire Arms. Yet again the treatment we received was outstanding. We were very warmly greeted & taken to our superb room . We were there for 2 nights & ate at the Stag restaurant both nights… absolutely superb! We were so well looked after by the most delightful young lady Rehannah, nothing at all was too much trouble. She is an absolute asset to your team, a special mention to James also who was a little gem. He helped us with the safe in our room when we had appeared to have locked it permanently! The whole team are exceptional, from the breakfast staff, evening waiting staff. bar staff..even the lovely cleaning ladies who were so friendly. This place cannot be faulted in any way. We will be returning again.
