Shanghai is the cool, confident face of modern China, and its energy is infectious. Go to the Bund to watch ships on the river and marvel at the huge variety of architectural styles on display, or watch the crowds go by in People’s Square. Shoppers should make a beeline for the Fabric Market, where you can have a suit or dress tailor-made for you at bargain prices. At night, explore all manner of fashionable restaurants, bars and nightclubs, or just stroll through the city enjoying the spectacular neon lights.

Fish Inn East Nanjing Road is such a gem hidden in a small alley right next to the hustle and bustle of the city. It offers tranquility, cleanness and comforts for travelers from all over the world.

Great Location and comfy beds

Reviewed By deanosaur89

The location of this inn is fantastic! It is a short walk to East Nanjing Metro station exit 6 and about a 10-15 minute walk to the heart of the bund. Most things we wanted to see or eat were near our hotel or within 2 metro stops! The bed in the room is very comfy and the wifi was decent. They also had a decent sized lobby area with a little cafe that served coffee and cake. The bathroom looked nice, but water leaked like crazy through the shower door and the flush lever needed lots of readjustment on the toilet our first night. Room cleanliness does not seem to be a priority as our bed was never fully made during our stay and there was bits of paper and stains on the couch and carpet when we arrived at the hotel.

Cheap and dirty

Booked this hotel because of its quite good ratings on almost all booking sites, however, I really got disappointed... PROS: + There is no metro- or traffic-related noise (elevated road directly in front of the building) in the room (at least this was the case in our room, as it has no out-facing window) + Cheap rates CONS: - The room is so small that you can't open a normal sized suitcase - Everything in the hotel is old and really needs to be renovated - The room is really NOT clean at all, e.g. there is hair and other stuff sticking at the bathroom walls (don't want to know what that is exactly), brown-ish stains on the curtains, dirt sticking on the walls, the glass, leaking pipes in the bathroom and so on... - Something in the bathroom was leaking, so there was always water on the bathroom floor - The room has no out-facing window, therefore you can't get fresh air in. Light is coming from a roofed indoor corridor. - The bed is seriously hard and uncomfortable, might be because it's old. - The walls in the hotel are SOO thin. You can hear EVERYONE in the corridors and even from the room on the opposing side talking. As you may know, Chinese tend to talk loud and there is constantly someone in the corridor talking on the phone. In addition, our room was near the dining hall which was filled with people almost every day at lunch and at night with working people eating and holding conferences (very loud laughing and hand clapping) there. If you don't fall asleep easily, at least ask for a room as FAR away as possible. - The hotel position feels like far far away from civilization as there are no residents in the close neighboorhood. Therefore, there are non of the typical street shops such as dumpling shops or supermarkets, only a very small Family Mart on the other side of the building. - You get prostitute ads every other day slided through underneath the door. - And - maybe as a result of that and the walls being very thin - you hear your neighbors getting intimate. Just as annoying as screaming little kids. - As neither the door nor the window is really tight, any small from outside (cooking food or smoke) just comes into the room. - The hotel staff was not willing to call a taxi over on our departure. If I'd think about it, I could probably go on with the list for ages. But just to sum it up: I would never book this again and would never recommend anyone to book a stay here.

Bad experience, never again

Loss of water from the sink and the toilet, bad smell in the room impossible to remove because the room had no windows. Every single nights we spent in this hotel the fire alarm rang in the middle on the night because of some people smocking in their rooms. Very disrespectful and annoying, the staff said they couldn't accuse anyone of it because they didn't know who were the responsible(they should be supposed to know from what room the alarm starts). Poor lightening in the room. The subway station is very close. The area is far from main attractions, so the subway comes to be very necessary. It's possible to reach xintiandi with about 30 min walking.

Jinjiang Metropolo Shanghai Xintiandi Hotel

Renovated 1930’s delight

Reviewed By littletokyo00

I have stayed in SH many times and this time I decided I wanted to stay somewhere different yet close to everything, and settled on the Metropolo based on it’s proximity to Madang Lu station, Xintiandi and Hua Hai Lu. I checked in early after a morning flight from Wuhan and was pleasantly surprised (as I was for most of my trip) that I could check in and gain access to my room before noon. Reception were friendly and spoke a reasonable amount of English for a Chinese hotel. I had booked a deluxe king which is the largest room they offer and as with the rest of the hotel, the renovation is about a year old and the property is like stepping back into 1930’s Shanghai! The room itself was spacious, has automatic curtains (which I miss now!), typical conveniences you would expect such as slippers, a fridge, but only a small selection of tea, no coffee. The bathroom as previous reviewers have mentioned is very small, and became a little tight for space with two people staying. The hotel has a lovely restaurant which is more or less deserted after breakfast, but a charming lobby and the hotel is surrounded by local food stalls and a few good options for dinner, plus a Starbucks for those who must. Madam Lu station is less than 5 minutes walk, take exit 3, which has an escalator for those with luggage. Xintiandi is around 10 minutes walk (or one stop on the metro). There is a large mall (Capital-land) just on the other side of the road from the station, which has a good selection of restaurants and shops. We loved the Metropolo, and for those wanting to step back in time and experience Shanghai as it might have felt in the 1930’s I’d encourage you to stay here.

Small Hotel with a "Homie" Atmosphere

Reviewed By haroldbox

The hotel has a homie feeling, and their lovely resident cat adds to that touch. The staff was friendly and helpful, although they did not speak English very well; it was hard at times to communicate with some of them (but keep in mind this might be the case in most hotels throughout China). It was very clean - the lobby, the room, and other common areas. They were very accommodating with our requests. There are few good restaurants around (some non-expensive local foods, and some a little more upscale catering to expats). There is a mall about 3 blocks away (if you have any emergency/last-minute purchases to make). We always felt safe walking out around the area at night. I would definitely stay here again.

Reviewed By Sightsee54760910149
