Golden Rose Hotel

Golden Rose: the surprise of a 4-star hotel as authentic as its valley The jewel of the Senales Valley: the Golden Rose is a 4-star hotel that has retained the flavor of an old-world inn. Managed by the Grüner family for three generations, the hotel has kept pace with the times without losing its strong historical roots. Here, the warmth of wood lifts the spirit, ancient fabrics come to life in new colors and shapes, tradition reigns yet is continually alive, in utter keeping with the modern world. Past and present in perfect harmony Juval Castle, the ancient fortification that is now home to mountain climbing legend Reinhold Messner, dominates the entrance to the precipitous Val Senales just 30 km west of Merano. The valley ascends towards the glaciers of the Ötztal Alps and the hamlet of Certosa, where the ancient Allerengelberg Cartusian Monastery was located. This is a valley with a strong character, dominated by Alpine landscapes as unique as they are varied. The gamut runs from the verdant pastures of the valley all the way up to Hochjochferner Glacier, from the charm of little villages to the landscapes of high mountains.

Quiet with a view!

We had a one night stop over on a motorcycle trip. We arrived weary and wary of what we were getting after our previous night's terrible stay at the youth hostel in Innsbruck. We were all elated when we checked in, saw our rooms, the hotel and the view. While I found the halls and common area decor needs an update, the rooms are all nicely decorated and updated. Very comfortable beds with good bedding. The bathrooms are spotless with a good supply of towels and nice toiletries. Robes and slippers are also provided. I promptly discarded my day's riding clothes, put on my swimsuit and headed down to the pool and steam room to relax. The steam room was lovely with a middle basin and beautifully tiled. Our rate included a three course dinner and a gorgeous buffet breakfast. The servers were exceptionally helpful in guiding me through what I could eat (gluten free) that would be safe. The food is excellent. Our room had a balcony overlooking the beautiful lake. Sadly, we weren't there long enough to truly enjoy it.

Stayed here for a night on the Merano hohenweg. The room was spacious and comfortable but a bit like a posh motel . The biggest problem was a stiff formailty which made you feel like you couldnt talk above a whisper and certainly not laugh.

Come stare in famiglia

Reviewed By MaDnar

Gorgeous family hotel

Reviewed By Alan N

We spent 11 nights at Hotel Oberraindlhof in August 2018 and, for us, it was the perfect hotel. Independently owned, family-run, beautiful, clean and where customer service is at the core of everything this lovely hotel offers. The staff really are a huge asset to this hotel. They were unfailingly helpful, welcoming and charming. Hotel Oberraindlhof has been owned by the same family for hundreds of years and their pride in this shows in every small detail and the care that goes into maintaining the rooms, public areas and gardens. We had a very spacious family room with super shower room in the new annex building. The views were spectacular from our little balcony, the beds really comfortable, the hot water unending and there was plenty of storage for all our kit. Our room was cleaned daily and linen changed at least once during our stay. The food on offer was plentiful and delicious with a changing daily menu or a choice of some set dishes for children and the less adventurous. Breakfast was a banquet, tea ditto and dinner with all it's 5 courses (you don't have to have them all) was delicious. We could not fault it. I would recommend, as others have, opting for half-board as there are no other restaurants close by. The staff all spoke English so we could get by and it was refreshing to be surrounded by only German, Swiss and Italian guests. Everyone seemed happy to muddle through in a combination of languages. We had the misfortune of having a medical issue develop during our stay and the staff could not have been more helpful or supportive. So, even in an emergency, the hotel came up trumps. The hotel also has a large 'Wellness/Spa' area with saunas, steam rooms, loungers, complimentary drinks etc. So, whether you're coming back from a hard day's walking or skiing there is the perfect place to wind down. Once a week the hotel offers a day's guided walk with lunch stop at the half way point. It is a great way to explore the valley with a guide who knows it well. Our five year old daughter managed the morning walk of five miles and then we jumped on the valley bus back to the hotel (free with the Summer Card the hotel gives you) whilst the other guests pushed on through the afternoon and walked the full 10 miles back to the hotel. We loved the location of the hotel - half way up the Senales valley, within strolling distance of the bus stop and with direct access to a huge number of walking trails and neighbouring villages, all of which are worth exploring. Merano, with it's mix of shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafes and amazing swimming pool, is a mere 15 minutes drive away. The hotel provides free daily entry to the swimming pool, which our 5 year old daughter adored. There is an Archeo Park in the next village, a climbing/rope park about 15 minutes drive, gondola lifts to take you to the top of mountains, monasteries to explore and utterly breathtaking scenery. The valley is quiet and dark with only the stars and sound of rushing water to fill the nightscape. Bliss! If you are an 'outdoorsy' family or couple who is looking for a down to earth, genuine and honest place to stay and explore this beautiful part of the world from then Oberraindlhof is the hotel for you. If you are looking for gold-plated taps, cocktail bars and a 'buzz' think again. In a nutshell, we would return to this hotel in a heartbeat.

The highest situated Hotel in Europe – the Glacier Hotel Grawand, it is situated directly on the slopes on the Schnalstal - Senales Valley Glacier, at an altitude of 3,212 m above sea level. The surrounding 3000m peaks are closer than you think. In the evening, when the ski area is close returns an absolute peace and guests can relax in the sauna after an active day of skiing. Exhilarating stay in the highest hotel in Europe

Reviewed By cymraeg4

Just discovered I didn't submit this review at the time in September 19!. Our 11-day trip to Italy was organised round our 3 night stay in the Glacier Hotel, and it was in every way the high point. It was the end of September, but still spectacular without very much snow apart from the glacier itself. It's the highest hotel in Europe at 3200m so we stopped 2 nights in Maso Corto at about 2000m. to acclimatise. The room was of a decent size, with a comfortable couch, plenty of storage space, and of course, the view! As we were well before the main season only a few rooms were in occupation so choice at breakfast and dinner was quite limited but nevertheless very good. I particularly liked the lingonberry pancake. We did the short walks to the view point and to the mountain top, and the track down to the bottom of the chairlift, and enjoyed them, and then sitting outside in the sunshine. Considering the difficulties of the location, and the cable-car and parking being included, I thought the price quite reasonable - it will be more in the high season naturally. What made our stop particularly enjoyable was the friendly and helpful staff, in particular Tamara on reception, and Christoffer and Zeinab in the restaurant. Thanks to all of you!

Stunning location

Reviewed By hotelbuff

Really nice modern hotel in a beautiful location. Martin and his staff are very helpful and the rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. We had an inclusive package that included breakfast and evening dinner. The breakfast was buffet style and included a large selection including some items they cook to order. The evening meal was nice too. My only criticism would be to clarify exactly what will be included and what is chargeable or not. I was under the impression that cakes and coffees where included in the afternoon however when I asked about it I was greeted by a blank face also I was charged for the welcome drinks that we had to ask for and when I queried this I had to provide a copy of my booking to show this was free. I understand in corona times it is very hard for a hotel to make any profit if little at all profit and if these little extras are to be removed it is understandable however it must be reflected in any literature sent to clients as this left me a little annoyed. Nevertheless the hotel is worth staying at and the staff are really helpful, this was my only let down and whilst we never got the cakes or cofee the welcome drinks were knocked off the bill.
