Beautiful lodge overlooking the Rufiji River and fantastic staff!

Reviewed By Vassia1

We spent four nights at Mivumo Serena Lodge and we absolutely loved it! Its location is fantastic - on the banks of Rufiji River where you can see hippos, crocodiles and even leopards sunbathing. Very spacious rooms with all amenities and beautiful traditional decoration, having breathtaking views of the Rufiji River. Great food and excellent service. Alex & the whole Mivumo Serena team made our stay special. Special thanks to our safari guide Jumbe who went above and beyond to make our every day game drives unforgettable. The river safari, sundowners and breakfast / lunches in the bush next to the different lakes of the game reserve & elephant / hippo herds were absolutely top notch! Highly recommended if you are looking for a special lodge in a unique location at Selous Game Reserve.

Sable Mountain Lodge

The beautiful Sable Mountain lodge is set in the beho hills on the North Western boundary of Selous Game Reserve. The lodge is built over several hills giving a fantastic vantage point and, arguably the best view of the reserve. There is a combination of large and comfortable en suite tented rooms and stone cottages all private and all with great views. The freshwater pool provides a welcome on return from a safari. The nearby tree house and water hole attracts lots of game and a few hours can easily be spent there observing. Relax at the Land Rovers Return pub before dining in the restaurant or under the endless stars. The most special element about Sable Mountain is the team who are famous for their friendliness and will go the extra mile to ensure that you have a superb safari experience.

Stay February 2022

We stayed three nights at Serena Camp with our three children for our safari. A magical place by its location in the middle of the reserve and the quality of the installation, an irreproachable service. Our guide gave us a unique experience during the safari. What a pleasure after the safari to rest by the pool with a view of the river, to have a chef listen to your wishes with an African meal requested by the children. We would like to thank all the hotel teams for our unforgettable stay. Mr and Mrs Vieira

Thank you so much for an awesome experience in the bush. Your beautiful camp situated on the bank of the river for us was more than we ever expected. or could have hoped for. We have been to many bush camps over the years and nothing can compare to this experience. Raw uninterrupted nature, hippos swimming next to our boat, crocodiles baking on the sandbanks. Absolutely spectacular. Most definitely a cut above the rest. We loved staying at your camp. Your staff made us feel welcome and at home, compliments to the chef, the food, well presented and tasty, with such a nice variety. Our guide on our game drive was very well presented, spoke English amazingly well and very well informed. The Selous Park is beautiful so different to the other camps we have visited. We were amazed at the amount of wildlife we saw in one drive. We will definitely be coming back.

Great place to stay, all the team was great and helpfull. Meals were very delicious and adapter to the safari. The camp is very well located by the river, the tents are very comfortable. The evening atmosphere is very pleasant, with henrick who is very communicative and speaks perfect English. You can also play chess with him ... everything was as we expected, even better. I recommend without any problem and with my eyes closed. Thanks to all the Zarafa tented camp team !!!

Fantastic, true safari in Selous

We spent 4 nights in a river suite. Very friendly staff, great decoration of the room and a personal butler taking care of you. The retreat is perfectly located at the great Ruhua river and you have all the animals just in front of your location. Hippos, Elepants just passing by, it was just a dream. Excellent guide that took us on safari with the 4 wheel drive, just the 2 of us, we never came across any other vehicles during the 4 days. Walking safari was a nice experience that ended with breakfast in the bush. Sundowner was nicely set at the Hippo point and the spa treatment in our suite was just perfect. We can only highly recommend to spend some days at the retreat in Selous. No to compare with the mass tourism in other parts of Tanzania.

Kituri Selous Camp

Kituri Selous Camp has got three newly built en-suite Bandas with an African taste which can accommodate 2 guests in each Banda. All three bandas are overlooking the Rufiji River where Hippos and Crocodiles can be seen from your veranda, hotel lobby or being assisted by your binoculars. Kituri Selous Camp is just on the edge of the great Rufiji river and the area is a hot spot from many species of birds and monkeys. White colobus monkeys are particularly fond of the place so our guests are properly entertained during their stay. We offer activities such as Game drives, Boat Safaris, Walking Safaris and Cultural tours. Welcome to Kituri Selous Camp

Amazing place to experience Nyerere National Park

Reviewed By Jenz01

We had a fantastic time at this camp. From our arrival until the moment we left there was friendly, personalised service and help with anything we needed. It's right on the river (you make the final part of your journey by boat; there's no road access) and into the evening you can see hippos, crocodiles and some of the local birds right from your dinner table or room. In the evenings we could talk round the campfire about our day, and our hosts were happy to share stories and knowledge about the local area - the nearby village of Mloka and traditions and history of Tanzania and East Africa. Ali was really friendly and helpful and even taught us some words in Swahili during the evenings as well. In terms of safari you just cross the river (by boat) and can go by jeep to the entrance of the national park and around it. We saw loads of giraffes, hippos, zebras, elephant, lions, impala, buffalo, wildebeest and many local birds. You can also take a boat safari trip from this location along the river where you can see hundreds of hippos, crocodiles, lizards and birds nesting and wading. The food was excellent, and there was plenty of it. On days when we were out there was a boxed lunch sent with our guide for us during the day, and every day started with breakfast and then ended with an evening dinner. Every meal was different and all included plenty of fresh fruit and local recipes. Would definitely recommend this location. Things to know: - They'll arrange to get you there whether it's by jeep, plane, etc. We had an easy journey from Dar es Salaam by road. - This is probably not a location for people with reduced mobility or young children. You need to be comfortable with climbing in and out of boats, up and down river banks, uneven floors and short flights of steps. Don't let this put you off but definitely note it! - It's a wild location next to a river. There are bugs. The rooms will be bug sprayed and the mosquito bed nets are good so it's fine overnight, but bring plenty of bug spray. - This is an 'off the grid' location. The plumbing is good, the bathrooms are simple but clean. There is very limited electricity - lights are solar powered and there is a generator available for three hours each evening to charge phones and power packs. - No wifi but there is mobile/cell and data reception.

Fantastic food and friendly service by the wonderful Rufiji river that runs through Selous (don't forget to take an unforgettable boat trip, but please do not go for a swim unless you are a crocodile ;) A good starting point for safaris in Tanzania's largest nature reserve. Nice tents close to nature with good beds and bathroom / shower. Very private. Feel free to ask Nova, one of the hosts about the medicinal plants / herbs he finds in the forest. Even an experienced medicine woman can learn some new tricks ;-) Expect to see a lot of animals on 2 and 4 legs and get new baboon friends. Enjoy! :-D

Very good location and wooden huts are elevated very next to river. Location is excellent, it was bit hot in Dec during Christmas we had problem in sleep in tent without fan. Staff is good , it was neat clean and well managed. Do not expect luxury it’s a camp but good experience. It takes around 5 to 6 hours from Dar El Salam in car. The Selous game reserve is very near from here.
