Sarajevo Hostels hotel | Places to Stay in Sarajevo

Bosnia and Herzegovina's fascinating capital Sarajevo nestles among dramatic peaks, a bustling and welcoming city. War took its toll, with the 1992-1996 siege hitting hard. But the lively, diverse, museum-rich city has been almost entirely reconstructed. Don't miss Bijambare caves, set in thick forests and amid lakes to the north of the city, or Bosna Springs, from which the country takes its name. Site of 1984's Winter Olympics, Sarajevo offers spectacular skiing on Mount Bjelasnica Jahorina.

Hostel Franz Ferdinand

Hostel Franz Ferdinand is a newly opened hostel located in the very heart of Sarajevo. If you are looking for a comfortable accommodation in the center, easy on the pocketbook too, to sleep in a private rooms or mixed dorms – look no further. In a charming building, built in the Austro-Hungarian period, young architects and designers refurbished the space and shaped a hostel that tells you a story of the event that initiated the First World War and forever marked Sarajevo on the map of the world – the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian archduke and Royal Prince Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. Every room in the hostel is authentic and you can choose to sleep in the Franz Ferdinand Room, Sophie Chotek Room, the Young Bosnia Room or the assassin Gavrilo Princip Room or rather, take the romantic room of the couple in love, the Sophie and Franz Room. From the quiet street where the Franz Ferdinand Hostel is, everything is close at hand. The street directs you to the main pedestrian zone. The most popular gathering places, clubs and restaurants in the city, are in the street right across it. The old part of the city, Baščaršija, is only a couple of minutes walking distance away from our hostel, and the distance is approximately the same to the center of the Sarajevo festivals, by which the city became well known in the after the war period. If you want to see all the landmarks of the city, which we cordially recommend, from the Franz Ferdinand Hostel, you can take a short walk to most of them.

Hostel Kucha

The best hostel in Sarajevo!

Reviewed By 911thalial

There is absolutely no doubt that this is the best hostel in Sarajevo and I would recommend my dearest friends to stay here! The facilities are incredibly modern, well-designed and stylish, and you really feel as if you are in a home away from home. The beds are super comfortable and have numerous reading lights and power sockets, there are lockers in the rooms, and everything is very spacious and clean. The showers feel so modern and luxurious, hair-dryers are provided, and there are mirrors in every room. My favourite part of the hostel is the kitchen - it is huge, with everything you could possibly need to cook, and there is also a lovely terrace where you can sit to eat, drink, and socialise. The hostel is designed in such a way that the noise is isolated to the common areas, which means that you are guaranteed to have a good night of sleep here! It is situated on top of a small hill, which is just a short, ten-minute walk from the cathedral in the centre of the old town - perfect location in a very cute neighborhood. There are also two small supermarkets, a bakery, a butcher's, a barber's, and a borek shop right on your door step which is very convenient. The staff here are super friendly and warm and make you feel very welcomed, with may recommendations and tips for a perfect stay in Sarajevo.

don't stay in the dorm

Reviewed By RajaNY

I emailed and received confirmation from Gina that there would be a single available. Upon arrival, I was told the prior guest wanted to stay an extra night so I was offered a bed in the dorm, but I would get the whole room to myself. Gina seemed sincere about the issue and I was tired and only had one day in sarajevo so I agreed. The dorm room contained about 12-15 beds. There were already two guests "resting" in the dorm but I was told by GIna that they will leave by the evening. I'm not real fussy over trivial stuff but I wouldn't stay in the dorm room again. None of the beds were cleaned recently, some had dust on the comforters. I feel like it's a place the owners send people when they overbook. Gina seemed like a genuine person but I felt I was a little scammed. I did have the choice to say no but like i said it was only one night and i was tired and still wanted to check out the city. In the end I paid for a single room but got a dirty dorm room to myself. With that said, the single rooms do look nice. Location is great. Right near the main touristy spots in town. Non-smokers will have to deal with the omnipresent smoke from the patio bars.

The beds were very comfortable. The receptionist, Elmedin, was extremely helpful during our stay at the hostel. He advised us the places to visit and even showed us some places in the Bascarsija. I really recommend this Hostel to anyone who wants comfortable and affordable accommodation.

Location is really great, right at the Bascarsija region, the staff is friendly and it's cheap. But if you would like to go to bed before 3 AM, you should find another accommodation, because right below the hostel is a bar with very loud music.

STAY AWAY! Rude, creepy, lying people. Weird rules, no functioning wifi, freezing room.

Reviewed By georgebN2532PL

DO NOT STAY HERE! These people (two brothers) are anything but hospitable and are downright weird and creepy. Here is the details account. 1. WiFi. Right before we checked in, we asked if WiFi worked. I explained that I needed it for work and it was very important. They said they turned off WiFi at night (for whatever stupid superstitions they had), but would keep it on for me until at least 2am, which is 5pm in the US, a time when I normally finish work. WiFi turned off 10 minutes after I started working. I went downstairs (in the cold) and complained. He said that his father supposedly turned it off. He turned it back on, WiFi worked for another 10 minutes then disappeared. I went downstairs again, he then said it was something wrong with my computer, and not his fault. My friend who I was traveling with then said that his WiFi also didn't work, so it's indeed WiFi problem and not computer. He then restarted router again. It worked for another 5-10 minutes and cut off again. They broke their promise of good WiFi and I wasn't able to do my work. 2. Freezing room They put us in a room upstairs with 2 beds. It was freezing. We're asked if the heater worked. He said yes, turned it on and promised that the room would warm up. He also noticed in a smartass way that bosnians are used to sleeping in a cold environment and it's normal. I was appalled by this comment but ignored it. The heater never really great up. It was lukewarm and room never got warmer. They only have is a very thin blanket. I slept 2 hours and woke up in the middle of the night. Couldn't fall asleep until 6 in the morning and only after I put my warm jacket on. My friend slept in a jacket. The only way you could fall asleep was fully clothed. As a result I slept 3-4 hours total and woke up late, losing half of daylight time. They promised warm room, the room was freezing cold and heater didn't work. Again, they broke their promise of a warm room and as a result I want able to fall asleep at a place that supposed to be for sleeping. 3. Shoes off, luggages outside. They force you to take your shoes off to get in and don't allow to bring luggage in the reception. It's very cold at the end of November and it was very uncomfortable. They said it's because they want hostel to be clean. What the hell?! We pay money for them to clean hostel. It's a normal operating expense. Forcing your guests to take off shoes to get into the room is preposterous! 4. Shower. Shower didn't work properly. You had to hold down the metal thingie for water to go through the shower. Water was hot at there beginning but got cold very soon. Shower room was freezing cold. 5. Drinking water. They said we can drink water. My friend tried. Water was brown before it got clear. It tasted like chlorine and definitely didn't seem safe to drink. 6. Reaction to complain When we complained in the morning, they said that got defensive. One of then asked for a key, we said it was in the room. He went to three room, came back, grabbed it bags and physically rejoiced them from the property, effectively throwing is out. 7. Price He charged us higher price than what we found online, explaining that they didn't really accept guests due to COVID and only had private rooms. Price was 30 Euros for both, which is on par with some decent Sarajevo hotels. 8. Reaction to negative review I left them negative review on Google. They responded with a long, completely fabricated story, accusing me of lies. If you don't believe me, check other reviews. 9. Other reviews They have great average rating on Hostelworld, but if you actually read the reviews, they are horrible. That makes me think that that rating is fabricated. It's harder to fabricate rating on Google and TripAdvisor. Check out their ratings there. Also, please READ the reviews. They either mention same things I mentioned or worse. One review mentions that one of them sexually harassed a guest, asking her to sleep with him. I don't know if it is true, but judging by their overall creepy vibe it would not surprise me one bit. These people are criminal and should be shut down. STAY AWAY! There are so many better options in town. PS I assume they will respond to this review with a message full of lies. Again, please read other reviews. If you still decide to go with them, please check everything before you give them money. They charge upfront because they know people would end up being disappointed.
