Charlie's Bar & Restaurant

Charlie’s Bar & Restaurant was founded on September 18, 1941 by a Dutch couple, Charles and Marie Brouns. They chose their location in San Nicolas as it was close to the large Lago Refinery: this provided a steady stream of clientele in the form of seamen, contractors, and oil workers.Over the years, Charlie’s Bar became a destination returned to by countless friends from the past, accompanied by new patrons anxious to visit what has become an iconic island institution…”If you haven’t been to Charlie’s you don’t know Aruba!”Today, Charlie’s Bar is recognized as one of the Top Ten Bars in the Caribbean; and is a must see destination for first time visitors who will undoubtedly encounter and enjoy the company of many repeat clientele from literally all over the world. Everyone comes for the ambiance; the real connoisseurs are here to enjoy the intercontinental cuisine offered by Charlie’s Menu. Everything from jumbo shrimp to fine tenderloin steaks and fresh local seafood are at your beck and call. The menu is varied and prepared fresh each and every day try our “Honeymoon Sauce” with your entrée (if you like things real hot) or tone it down with our Creole style of preparation. Daily specials and home made snacks round out the menu for the inquisitive diner.Presently, your host, Charlito (the third generation Charlie) says, “Everything we do is focused on one thing, creating an unforgettable memory that will leave you wanting to return.”

Since this restaurant is quite a distance away from the high-rise,and low-rise hotels,we scheduled our reservation toward the end of...MoreThank you for dining with us! Our apologies for the underwhelming dining experience.

Kamini is from Trinidad and her curries are Very Good! We tried ted snapper, which was a whole fish fried and then infused with curry, and chicken curry. Spicing is mild yet flavorful and a homemade sauce kicks it up a notch. Very friendly service and reasonable prices.

Big Mama Grill Bar

When I travel, I Like to experience the foods of that country and place. I, personally, do not care to eat the usual fare that I can get at my Local Cheap TakeOut/Fast Food place...to me-this is what Big Mama's is...horrible and overpriced American Fare food.
This is my own opinion though. I realize that many people simply "Love" to have their burgers and fries...they are the ones that just throw their waste on the beach and do not care where it lands...If you want this type of over-rated food-then go. If not, pack your own lunch and bring it with you. There are many places for a good take-out before you get to Baby Beach. And Rum Reef Bar and Grill is better priced with a few more options-some local tasting food included in their menu.

Baby Beach Snack

Baby beach was absolutely beautiful. It is actually a man made beach that you can wade out 100's of yards and still be in waist deep water. The water is that perfect blue and the sand is like powder. There is also a nice area for snorkeling at the one end of the beach. Make sure to stay in the marked snorkeling area as there are strong currents at this end of the island.

This restaurant was great for their buffet breakfast on the weekends, lots of fresh options like coffee and tea plus all the eggs and pancakes your heart desires. One suggestion would be to add Turkey or chicken options for the bacon or sausage links because a lot of ppl these days do not eat pork or ham.

O'Niel Caribbean Kitchen

Reviewed By buggerthis - Lake District UK

From the cruise port we jumped on a bus down to San Nicolaas, wandered about and found this gem.
It was to hot for us brits outside so in we went. Greeted warmly by the staff and seated at a well laid table.
I ordered the shrimp cocktail and Jerk chicken, my wife just roast chicken as she was a bit hesitant about the spices.
We needn’t of worried, all the food was hot ( unlike the lukewarm food on the boat) and delicious, the shrimp were huge and juicy, the jerk and roast chicken looked like they had been done over charcoal with blackened crispy skin, served with rice and beans, salad, mash and plantain ( banana) add two ice cold beers and the bill came to $38 well happy with food, service and value.
Thoroughly recommended.
