A real Tuscan Haven, stunning setting and exceptional accommodation

Reviewed By Claire W

We absolutely loved our family break here. Staying at the Case de Lago was brilliant - the accommodation is fantastic, rustic chic at its finest and perfectly designed, including the overall freshness, cute Jack and Jill bathroom and that feeling of really living somewhere. Being able to rustle up your own meals (after a trip to the cobbled streets of Volterra for authentic and delicious supplies of course…) is really nice when you’re travelling as a family and not wanting the restrictions of set meal times every day. The private pool, garden area and electric buggy for roaming the estate were all delightful additions that were not on the website! You cannot fault the scenery or general ambience. The outdoor bar and wine tasting were particular highlights for us. The setting of the Al Fresco restaurant is cracking, whereas the main restaurant takes its menus more seriously. There is room for minor improvements in the speed of service, replenishment of breakfast buffet etc but who cares when you are having such an enjoyable stay amongst staff who are genuinely trying to provide the best service. We rarely go back to fabulous holiday destinations but we might just make an exception for Borgo Pignano…..

We stayed here while on a business trip we absolutely enjoyed the place and will keep using it while we are in the area as we really enjoyed our stay . From here you can be in Florence in under an hour, Pisa half hour and the sea half an hour. The people that run the place kept it open for us till late when we arrived really enjoyed the whole experience .

Very peculiar location, yet too basic

Reviewed By MeOnTraveling

The hotel was set up in the old stables of the once Royal (and later, presidential) estate in which it is located. Rooms are neat and very well kept, but really (really!) basic: an open wardrobe with only shelves and a pole (Why no doors? Who knows!), a ridiculous 20" screen tv, a minuscule bathroom, a vending machine with water and coffee by the entrance. That is it. No other comfort. Despite that, the place DOES prove worth the visit, for many reasons. The location is really unique and breathtaking: you are inside the National park of San Rossore, at the heart of a huge, pristine coastal pine wood that includes wet areas, an untouched wild coastline, the presidential retreat if villa Gombo. You can literally walk for days. The restaurant by the hotel is excellent: crowded at lunch, you will be happy to be with the few guests of the hotel to be there for dinner. And, you are 15 minutes away from Pisa!

Beautiful location

A very nice set of fully restored farm houses. Large living dining with stove microwave and small fridge. Complete with indoor outdoor fireplaces. The views are stunning. Each house has its own small pool. The only complaint I had was at night there was very little lighting inside. It did add to the intimacy of our visit though. Able to site see at the nearby village of Pomarance. Highly recommend.

Large family holiday

We stayed as a family of 4 adults and two children here last summer. We loved the place it’s secluded from the fast pace of the city and even the local village is a short drive. The pool was excellent with plenty of space for guests. Pontedera train station is close by so you can travel easily to Florence or Pisa without a car but you would need a car for the trips to and from the hotel. The room itself because of the amount of attractions was adequate as we mainly used it to sleep with the impeccable weather meaning we spent much time outside.

Quaint BnB, perfect for day trips around Tuscany

Reviewed By Jennifer G

This is my second time staying here two years in row, and I absolutely love this quaint and charming little bed and breakfast in the heart of Tuscany. It is situated perfectly in between Firenze, Pisa and Siena, allowing you to partake in multiple day trips if you needed to. The owners of this place (particularly il Signor Alberto whom I know best) are absolutely amazing and will go above and beyond to make your stay here as pleasant as possible. I highly recommend, and I will, of course, be back! The rooms are newly renovated, completely clean (not a speck of dust!) and fully furnished with all the necessary amenities - not to mention the beautiful views! You will need a car to access this Podere, but you will find ample parking spaces.

Allegroitalia Terme Villa Borri

Villa Borri is a historic dwelling-place, rich in fascination and elegant refinement, dates back to the eighteenth century, and is surrounded by a spacious time-honored park. The accomodation is composed of 22 luxury apartments, finely restored in the Tuscan style. Their distrinctive features include their classic terracotta floors, and ceilings with wooden beams or brick vaults. The apartments are of various sizes, to satisfy all our guests' requirements, but all of them are fitted with every comfort, guaranteeing complete autonomy. The bright green of the lawns is the dominant characteristic of the gardens surrounding the villa. They create a separation from the rest of the world, a place where the reign of peace and purity is unchallenged, and the rhythm of life is guided by relaxing routines and intoxicating scents. Inside our parc there is Terme Villa Borri Spa, managed by Terme di Casciana.

Great Relaxing Time

This place is beautiful! Has green areas within the hotel as well as terraces. For the hot springs has four pools with jacuzzi jets. The installation was clean, quiet and well maintained. Myriam the owner is very attentive and helpful. All we asked she provided to us with a big smile and kindness. We got as a gift a bottle of red wine, a very tatesful one that we enjoy at dinner in one of the terraces, that she set up for us. She also order for us the best pizza in town. Thank you for everything. We did have a relaxed time there. Definetly, we will come back and I recommend this place hands down.

Simply, The Best

After finding a parking spot on the road by the church, we set off in search of the apartments, and after taking a right turn down one of the narrow streets, we came across our accommodation very easily. Marco welcomed us and showed us to a beautiful apartment. I am sure they are all beautiful apartments in this small block. The view was outstanding and we were able to watch the most beautiful sunset ever. Checking in and out was very simple and done with a smile. The apartment was spacious and spotless and had more facilities than we needed for our short stay. The town of Casale Marittimo is charming, with a good choice of bars, restaurants and shops. We loved it all.

Nice Place Bad Restaurant Business

Reviewed By 939dustinl

We booked a birthday party for our 10 year old daughter with the restaurant businessman and we had struck an agreement on the menu...the menu changed at the last minute and our daughter and all of her friends were not only served later, but something different. We paid the full price and the outcome made our stay unwelcome. Even afterwards, the businessman wanted more money. Unreal, because the place is beautiful and the rooms are nice (a bit smelling like mildew, but typical for the coastal rentals in the area). Not a great way to treat people and bad for long-term business.

Great Wines, Beautiful Scenery, Authentic Tuscany Builds and charming Claudia

Reviewed By RonaldEekhoff

On our trip from Holland to Campania we’ve stopped at Volterra in Tuscany. Our good friend Raffaella advised us to make the stop here and as always she was so right. We’ve felt in love instantly with the scenery, the building, the winery and the owner Claudia. She has written “hospitality” all over her. It was a bit to cold to use the swimming pool but for the summer guests it is available and allows you to swim, drink a glass (or bottle) of the beautiful wines (the rosé is the best I had in years) en enjoy the amazing panorama. First time in Tuscany but not the last time for sure.
