Fine location, great cooking. The managers respect the traditional recipes of the area.Available are many wines, national and international one. Some worries concern the interiors, because it might be more homogeneus and according to the mountain design. Adviced dishes are Pork Shank, Cheese selection and their tasteful soups.Prices are just correct. That need a trial.

An absolutely magnificent feast for lunch, delivered with great charm at a very reasonable prices. We've eaten many fine meals over many years in many regions of Italy and this was unequivocally one of the very best. Exceptional quality of antipasti, even by comparison with the many other fine restaurants in this region, and even more exceptional quality in the pasta dishes, accompanied by a very fine wine suggested by our gracious host.

Was taken here by family members and their families on a visit to the area. We were 10 of us and all seemed to enjoy the food immensely. I was not very hungry but had a very good dish of pappardelle ai funghi. Need to bring up following recommendations as a restaurant visit is an experience, combining food quality, price and atmosphere. To that, I suggest:- Better manners from waitresses;- A better job cleaning the walk leading to the restaurant. Roccarasa is a hill community and the management should be prepared to assure that his clientele, many elderly, do not hurt themselves walking in and out. Also, I was quite surprised of the fact that even as Il Tratturo has a reputation for pizzas, the waitress told us that they were not serving them that day. Why?A nice touch was the appearance of a "zampognaro", a sight I had not seen since my teen years,

La Staffa

Ok to start with we are vegetarian and living in Abruzzo it can be difficult finding good veggie food in restaurants. We were here out of season, early November with no snow in a ski resort... This small unattractive place (from the outside) had no one else there apart from what we guess were family who eat there regular... The place is quaint and your typical family run restaurant, no plush surroundings and very tight together tables (very few). At first we thought it looked a bit shabby and the tables not cleared, that was until we sat down and realised it was decorative farro grains on the table and not bits of food! The family running the place (mum, son and we think daughter) were a bit bemused at customers this time of year and of course the request for vegetarian, they looked rather worried to boot at the latter.. .Oh and of course English with "poco" Italian. Still they were very, very friendly and helpful. We were served with bread in a basket and a plate of warm garlic bread, which was obviously with quality olive oil by the taste. A hand written menu in English was produced, but none for wine, not a problem as we know what we like and they were happy to show us what was available. We rarely have other than a main course and a side dish or 2, but here we had a starter, down as "Vegetable gratings", but turned out to be (as we had hoped) grilled vegetables. This was a lovely mix of very thin sliced aubergine, squash, courgette and peppers with a drizzle of oil and sprinkle of herbs, it was superb! We had tagliatelle with porcini and farro risotto also with porcini for mains and both were excellent and very good portions and good deal of what seem to us fresh porcini mushrooms. Perhaps not a place for everyone, but well worth a try. It was also such good value for money, especially in a ski resort, albeit a little way out of town (well worth the walk).

La Preta

Reviewed By Daniele I

I have rated La Preta 4/5 as there was no 3-and-a-half, which I think would have been more appropriate. However, deciding between 3 and 4, I decided to give the benefit of the doubt and go with 4. Anyway, I visited La Preta with il prete (my cousin who's a local priest) in September 2014. We went out for a drive to the ski resort Roccaraso (in Abbruzzo) with the intention of having lunch in another restaurant which we couldn't find. So, spotting La Preta, we thought we'd give it a try. On entering, I was surprised to find it completely empty... but, of course, it wasn't yet skiing season. There was a lot of local bric-a-brac about skiing through past decades decorating the place which, I suppose, all helped create an interesting environment relating to the speciality (skiing) of the area. It was difficult to assess the atmosphere for dining as - being empty and lunchtime - it wasn't particularly conducive to such an ambient appraisal. The only thing that particularly stood out and which *didn't* like was that there was a strange smell of stale cigarettes. Now, I don't know if anyone (staff) had been smoking prior to our arrival or if it was drifting in from somewhere outside but it wasn't particularly nice. This may though have been a one-off. I had two courses. My first course was a *very delicious* house specialty "cazzarielli con i fagioli". I could easily have had this same dish for three courses! My second course was 'okay' but nothing great (although I can't remember exactly what I had)... perhaps it was just a 'wrong choice' rather than poor quality. The waiter service was good and attentive and not too oppressive... he was fine. Overall, I did like the restaurant and it's promotion and execution of the local regional fare. My impression is that if busy with a lot of diners, it *would* be pretty atmospheric and an enjoyable restaurant at which to dine. I'd recommend it (especially the "cazzarielli con i fagioli"). Worth a visit.
