Beckie's Cafe

When we arrived we waited at the door for over ten minutes before anyone spoke to us-to be told we couldn't be seated (there were a couple of empty tables). The lady acted disgruntled when we said we wanted hot tea and pie to go. After another ten minutes or so, a nicer woman took our order. We waited about twenty minutes for it though. Neither of us finished the pie, tasted like something from a grocery store.

On our trip to the States we stayed in some rather grand places and some cheap motels so this is why I have given Prospect hotel an average score.
The self catering room was basic, clean and what I was expecting.
The beautiful building had an olde worlde feel and the restaurant catered for locals and visitors alike. Go and enjoy this part of the world and judge for yourself instead of letting me make up your mind.

The pizza, sandwiches, and WIFI were worth the trip. Don't laugh, WIFI is hart to come by in this little town. The prices were reasonable and there was a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. We came twice during our trip because we were...MoreThanks, it is useful for us to hear what stood out as positive aspects during your visit. A strong free wifi service has been a bigger feature than I first thought.

This local diner boats a row of beheaded trophies on entry -- the axe doorhandle forewarns of a different dining experience. Service is very friendly, the food pretty basic, although better than your average diner. Worth stopping in to imbibe the local vibe.

If you've never had Umpqua Ice cream, it's great! This is a little pit stop on the Crater Lake Hwy near Beckie's Cafe and Union Creek Resort. Nice little stop, clean, has a place to sit, store across the street. Great Ice Cream, friendly.

We decided to try dinner at the Cascade Gorge Restaurant now that it has new management and cooks after a long time of being closed. We were pleasantly surprised. Although it is a no-frills restaurant, everything was clean and neat and brightly lit. Our server offered lemon for our water as we perused the menu.

The specials for the night were chicken fried steak, meatloaf, and port chop, all served with mashed potatoes and gravy and a mini ear of corn on the cob. Also offered were open-faced Turkey sandwiches with gravy, and freshly made chili and cornbread. The on-the-bone pork chop was moist and flavorful with a lemon-pepper seasoning. The accompanying mashed potatoes were freshly mashed, not instant, and smothered in sausage gravy, which I imagine is the gravy served on the biscuits-and-gravy offered on the breakfast menu. My dining companion had the meat loaf which was three, thinly sliced pieces (though sufficient) covered in beef gravy. Each entree was delicious and a very good value at $9.98 each. I would have liked a small side salad alongside however. The dessert special was home made apple pie, but we didn't try it.

A look at breakfast and lunch items convinced us to come back for breakfast. There are a number of omelets offered along with other items, all very reasonably priced. The lunch menu included burgers, tri-tip sandwiches, pulled-pork on buns, BLTs, and the server said that a vegetarian burger was also available, though not listed.

Stop here on your way to or from Crater Lake or while playing at Stewart State Park, just four miles down highway 62. You won't be disappointed!
