The Cuillin Hills Hotel has a lounge bar, a Malt Embassy offering more than 130 Malt Whiskies, The View Restaurant with fantastic views from every table. Bedrooms are all en-suite, many offering superb mountain and sea views.

One of the best locations we have ever been to in the world!

Reviewed By amandawr2016

We had a wonderful stay in the Cuillin Hills Hotel. The staff were all absolutely delightful, the rooms were of a very high standard and overlooked the sea. However, it was so much more special than just the sea, as you could see very easily and closely the gorgeous view of the land mass opposite, which was beautiful. The sea also had the odd yacht and fishing boat in it, which was lovely and the hotel lawn had multiple chairs and tables to have a drink or cocktail overlooking the view. It was also 5 minutes walk from the main town. Lastly, the hotel suggested that we might like to book a reservation for supper the first night, in case we arrived late and the other restaurants in town were fully booked, so we did. In fact, we ate at the hotel restaurant every night, as the food was absolutely delicious, easily worthy of a Michelin star we felt, which we feel sure they will be awarded very soon!

Highland tour

We recently stayed here during our bus trip to Skye. The room was spotless with a modern bathroom and a very appreciated smart tv. After full days on a bus getting back to our rooms and popping on a movie from our streaming app was so lovely. There’s lot of places to eat in Portree but we chose to eat in the hotel both days because the staff were phenomenal and really made it so welcoming and fun. Andy, Johnny Tessa and Rihanna were just some of the people we had the pleasure to interact with. The food was great and the dinning area/lounge room was lovely and open yet cosy. Thanks again everyone!

Traditional but comfortable

Reviewed By DickZe

This seems to be one of the traditional hotels. It is old style but comfortable. There is no lift. The room was big enough with a desk and a seating. The bathroom had a bathtub. The hotel has its own parking place around the corner, which can fit 10 cars. In the discussion about parking, the lady from the reception gave me the times of free parking in front but did not mention the own parking area. So I ended up parking in a public car park until I found out later how it was. WiFi works well. Breakfast is friendly served with some self-serving and a cooked meal to order.

Perfect!

Reviewed By Kat G

Stayed here for two nights while on a Heart of Scotland tour. This immaculate B&B is on the edge of the town, approx 20 mins walk from the town centre...uphill or downhill depending on which way you're walking! The room was spacious and spotless, with incredible views over the bay, and kitted out with the usual tea/coffee, toiletries, towels, including flannels which was a nice touch. The mattresses and pillows were very comfortable. Our hostess Margaret was friendly, welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was generous and turned out to perfection. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on another visit one day.

Lack of returning emails

Reviewed By bearblanca

We had booked two rooms well in advance of our visit, then The Pink House cancelled our reservation and a month later we STILL haven't received our refund. They said they couldn't access the records for the credit card payment. We've been unable to reach them by phone. They don't return emails. Totally disgusted.

Disappointing

Reviewed By AntonyW286

Preview of your experience Antony United Kingdom 2.0 Disappointing Liked · The location is a bit below average for Portree. It is not far from the Banks Street Co-Op which is open until 11.00 pm. Disliked · Although named Coolin View, my room had no view, with a single window facing a wall 2 feet away, with limited natural light. The room was small, little larger than the single bed, and smaller than the private hostel room I stayed at in Portree a few nights earlier. Poor value for money. No bath towel was provided, nor was there a hand towel in the holder beside the washbasin. I would expect that in a hostel but the price here suggested that the operators and Booking.com are marketing this property as above hostel standard. I called the contact number given in the booking acknowledgement repeatedly but there was no answer and no voicemail so no chance to leave a message. Eventually I used the only other contact option given, email. There was no response for over an hour and a half. This was an email from the impersonally styled "Coolin View Guest Rooms" stating they were a 40 minute drive away and asking if ok for them not to supply a towel that evening, but offering to do so by 8.30 am next day. Onward travel meant I had to leave before then. So there were no staff in attendance, a frustrating lack of response to communications, and a failure to respond in a timely way to fix the problem. That email referred to "the guest house" but you simply get a key to a small room. It was not clear from the Booking.com website that this is just a remote operation without service backup. There appears to be a robotic surveillance device in the unstaffed reception area which may be capturing images of guests arriving. The paperwork does not appear to request consent to taking images of individuals. There is a list of guest surnames near the front of the building in case of fire, gas explosion or other emergency. After booking this accommodation, without special requests, I received a dozen emails before arrival, most of which repeated the same information. The bathroom window has no intermediate position between open and closed, and the evenings can get cool on Skye.

Taransay House

Taransay's Restaurant Elevates it from a Perfect B & B to a Destination Not to be Missed!

Reviewed By ALNeiman

My husband and I stayed at Taransay House for two nights this past week. What an enjoyable experience in every way. The B&B was recommended by friends and we're so happy we booked here. Reservations were simple (we booked directly); emailed questions were answered quickly and thoroughly. The owner Murdo is a fountain of knowledge and his suggestions about what to see and do were perfect. The Hotel sits one-house back from the water, and as it is on a small rise you don't see the house in front at all - just the water and hills. Taransay House is newly built and every detail is perfect from the furnishings to the stunning food in the Restaurant. Murdo, the owner greeted us with a tumbler of a new label Scotch, which was much appreciated after our drive. Our room was large with seating facing the Loch. The bed was very comfortable including the pillows - not too soft and not too hard. There were enough electrical outlets and everything worked - TV, Wifi, night lamps, windows. The bathroom was large with both shower and tub and plenty of space to unpack all of our toiletries. The mirror was underlit - perfect for make-up. There was a light at the bottom of the tub that served as a night light. The shower has both a rain head and a hand held. It was easy to operate and the water pressure was great. And then - to add to the enjoyment of this wonderful spot - the owner's son is the Chef. We had heard about his food and the quality of the restaurant -- it is not to be missed. Scott is a classically trained Chef who appreciates locally grown and artisanally produced products. His food is healthy, fresh, delicious and gorgeous. His breakfasts were wonderful and his dinners take the experience of Skye to another level. In my mind, Scott's restaurant elevates Taransay house from a perfect B & B to a destination in itself. It is my understanding that the restaurant is for B & B customers and not for others staying outside or even for the community. It's worth it to stay here to have an opportunity to experience dinner at Taransay House. You will not be disappointed. Book in advance!! Finally, Murdo's suggestions about what to see and do in and around Portree were spot on perfect. Whatever he suggests that you do (including which mountain to climb and which scotch to sample), is probably what you should do! We could not have been happier with our experience here!

Fine for a short visit

Reviewed By islwmn2022

I booked this hotel with credit card points, and it was my only choice in Portree, and is right in the center of town which makes shopping and dining very easy. The hotel is quite old, but my room was clean and neat. Not soundproof, however. There is no lift, and the staircase that I had to climb was circular. As I am a senior female this was a challenge with a fairly heavy suitcase in tow. The hotel had a very good restaurant, and I wound up eating all of my breakfast and dinner meals there.
