Huge disappointment

Reviewed By Masha_Z82

Very disappointed about my stay at Gerald’s. First of all, the place does not feel proper. There’s rubbish in the middle of the yard that you observe every day. The beds are ok. The bathroom is stained all over, it doesn’t feel clean at all The safe that was in the room didn’t have a key, and even if it did, it would be useless as it can be easily taken out because it’s not attached to the wall. The electricity got cut off the 31st of december. Though having a generator, the owner waited for almost an hour to turn it on. I barely managed to finish the shower as the water does not often work without electricity. And I had to prepare myself for the New Years celebration in dark, while they were waiting to turn on the generator. The next 2 days the rooms were most of the time without electricity and water, though there is generator at the property. But they turned it on only for the restaurant, and most of the time kept is shut off. When I complained about the fact, they told me that when they finish in the restaurant I’d get the electricity. So they used generator to serve food to people, a lot of them from outside of the hotel, and make their money, while the clients who already paid for the room suffered without electricity and at times without being able to shower too. They would chose to make more money over their clients’ comfort.

La Romantica

A very good place

Reviewed By AlexBarb

Excellent place to stay in Contadora. Was a bit worried but everything was much better than expexted. This is a small B&B, only 4 rooms, that tries and succeed in making you feel very welcomed and that you're staying with friends. Owner is very nice and goes above and beyond in trying to ease thing up for you. Breakfast is one of the best I have had, finally someone understood that quality and not quantity is what matters most, and they spared no money in this. And a good breakfast is a good start of the day. They taken us from the airport, given us a tour, rented us a golf cart, helped us with recommendations and given us a tour of the small island. Room itself was big, came with a very useful fridge, bed (round one!) was comfortable and bathroom was nice, with hot water. Property had a nice patio that you could use, buyed some things from supermarket and it was a bice place to stay. Stayed 4 nights and then moved to the only beachfront hotel on the island, Mar y Oro, which was twice as expensive, and the rooms and breakfast there were nowhere near La Romantica (but nice beachfront location). Beaches and supermercado are 10 min walk or rent a golf cart (50$).

Excellent Food - We ate here 3 nights in a row!

Reviewed By philhelb

We loved the food at Pearla Real. So much so that we returned for dinner 3 nights in a row. Why go elsewhere when the food is this good. We had everything from pasta, fish and chicken. Every dish was terrific. Our stomachs were happy. The service was excellent and they have a nice selection of wine to go with whatever you order. A terrific experience each time.

Contadora Island Inn

Hospitality is the missing ingredient

Reviewed By OceanBuoy

Stayed 2 nts @ end of April 2022. Had to wait a half hour for their transportation to the inn from the ferry dock although it's less than a mile away. This property is sometimes referred to as the Hotel Contadora Island Inn. The word 'Hotel' is misleading as this is basically just a home where several rooms have been rented out. Upon check-in the owner informed us that there was no breakfast due to Covid. This is understandable, but putting out juice, fruit, or bread for the guests would have been welcome. Also, there is no bottled water on the property. Instead guests are told to walk down to Angelina's Restaurant to buy water. Not a long walk, but it's down a steep hill. Not good for anyone with mobility issues. Simply having bottled water/soft drinks available for sale on site would have been a nice touch. Finally, although our ferry back to PTY was due at 3.30 pm, the owner drove us to the ferry dock a full hour and a half early. Why? Because unbeknownst to us he has a side job of helping coordinate the ferry departures. So we sat around in the heat for 1-1/2 hrs for no good reason. It's one thing to hang a shingle calling your business an Inn. It's quite another to provide the minimum degree of hospitality and service that guests expect. Unfortunately, the Contadora Island Inn missed the mark.

Good prices and nice service

Reviewed By pascal g

Casa del Sol includes different places : one property has simple rooms and studios with kitchen but no pool, another one has 2 floor houses with common pool area. So you must make sure your booking matches the pictures you saw at the moment of booking. Paul is a very helpful contact in all matters. He picks you up and drop you off at the ferry. Casa del Sol rents golf carts which are the favourite transport device on the island (although not cheap). Casa del Sol has certainly one of the best quality/price combination on the island. Also there is one of the good/cheap restaurants of the island (Angelina) just a short walk away.

Hotel needs some TLC, but was still very nice - GREAT views!

Reviewed By Kathrine

Yes, Covid happened and this hotel depends on tourists for its survival. They are trying very hard and need to be appreciated for that. We arrived long before check-in but were able to change for beach use and they kept the luggage. First, every staff person we encountered was kind and very helpful. Rooms were being renovated and the property itself was under some construction to make it nicer. It was directly on the beach and the beach was lovely! Chairs/umbrellas are provided and set up for you by staff. There is a lower bar area for drinks. We ate there for breakfast and one lunch - food was ok. We had room #1 and it needs some eventual attention. It was spacious with a beautiful view, so that made up for the minor inconveniences. It is walkable to a lovely Italian restaurant and to the small town. Staff will pick you up at the dock if you let them know in advance.

Hostal Las Perlas de Contadora

Not that bad, but not great!

Reviewed By jsohmer

The motel ( hotel???) lies on top of a grocery store, and a small diner/restaurant with mostly locals patronizing the place. it is across the street from the airport , but there are only a few planes per day flying in and out, and the runway is small. The place and room is a bit shabby, but clean enough, and the beds were ok. There was no safe in the room...The shower functioned with luke warm water, and the toilet worked. Please bring your own shampoo, or buy it downstairs. i would say that it was not that bad for a real budget traveler..the price was around $60 usd for a room with 2 large beds. Also the diner below had reasonably -priced meals including a special of the day for lunch($8-$10) The juices offered were especially great. But 3 other restaurants were minutes away by foot. At least 4 beaches were walkable and the beaches were nice , virtually empty while I was there, but the water was really cold (Pacific side),and there were jellyfish all over the water. But it was nice to lie on the sand and read books. The beach across the street from the airport, just next to Hotel La Isla, and 3 minutes down the hill from my hotel( I think it s called Cacique Beach) is the one I frequented the most.Luis Crespa Cila, a Spaniard from Valencia, manages the hotel and beach bar behind the beach, and not only plays wonderful music to the ears ,while beaching, including lots of old pop standards, but serves the best food on the island at his beach bar, at very good prices(my best gaspacho to date!) The real negative about my hotel room wasn t the lack of a safe in the room, but the fact that from 800 pm to midnight every night , the grocery store would blast on noisy salsa music to attract customers, and I would not be able to sleep until the music stopped. Also the AC although functional, was extremely noisy...I had to stop it in order to sleep. I am giving the motel/ hotel 3 stars out of generosity, but the evening music noise, till midnight, and spartan amenities of the room, including the noisy AC, tempted me to give less.
