Lovely stay

Reviewed By alexkennedy12

My husband and I recently spent a night here for our anniversary. We received a lovely chocolate ‘happy anniversary’ tray in our room. We stayed in a deluxe estate room which was great and had a beautiful balcony with views of the golf course. We enjoyed drinks outside and in the cave bar. We had a delicious meal in the castor dome and our breakfast the next day was perfect. Really enjoyed our stay. Lovely atmosphere in all areas of the hotel and we found all staff members to be very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.

The Redgarth

We look forward to welcoming you to our family run traditional inn located in the heart of Aberdeenshire overlooking Bennachie (in the Eastern Grampian Mountains). Now in our thirty first year we continue to strive to make our guests feel at home. As well as six individually decorated rooms we also run an award winning restaurant and bar. Pull up a stool at our bar or relax and enjoy a variety of malt whiskies including a selection from our village distillery Glen Garioch. In addition to a choice of draft lagers, stouts, cider and craft ales we have three hand pumps providing some of the best cask conditioned ales in Scotland, which change on a weekly basis. Our keen interest in predominantly Scottish real ale has been recognised nation wide over the years with numerous awards from the Campaign for Real Ale. Our fine wine list is available for those looking for something special to accompany their meal. Our chefs use the freshest of ingredients sourced locally where possible our menu is international with a strong hint of Scotland including vegetarian and gluten free options. Changed on a regular basis our menu is served in our main lounge or dining room which can also be reserved for private parties or business meetings. Our accommodation comprises of one twin and five double rooms all of which are furnished to a 4 star Visit Scotland standard. Rooms and balconies are all non-smoking, en-suite and offer the usual refinements. Situated on the first floor the rooms are self contained providing guests with ease of access at all times. Our front rooms enjoy unsurpassed views of the surrounding countryside. As a visitor to Oldmeldrum you are well placed to enjoy the rolling landscape, stretching from the Cairngorm National Park to our beautiful coastline with its small fishing villages, cliffs, marine and bird life. Where the narrow streets and interesting houses of Oldmeldrum reflect the irregular plan of a medieval market town. The name itself means 'burn of the bare hill ridge' from 'Allt' meaning burn, 'Maol' bare and 'Druin'. More castles and distilleries can be found in Aberdeenshire than any other part of the country. Boasting three fishing rivers, the River Dee, River Don and River Deveron as well as sea and loch fishing, visiting fisherman are in their element. An abundance of stunning links and parkland golf courses are also on our doorstep for you to enjoy. In the summer months Aberdeenshire hosts a number of traditional festivals and Highland games. Whether you plan to hike, cycle, golf, visit castles, distilleries meet for business or just take some time out to relax, The Redgarth is well suited to any of these activities and we are very happy to help you get the most from your visit to the area.

Smashing place to stay with excellent customer detail

Reviewed By Shruggy

Upon arriving at the apartment I popped into the Morris hotel/restaurant next door and a man called Robin, who I presume was the owner, fetched our key and checked us in. He walked us around the apartment, showed us how the heating worked (thankfully not needed) and offered to set a timer. He also showed us a new pack of individual cereal packets were in the cupboard for breakfast, milk was in the fridge and a loaf in the bread bin. It’s a wee gesture like this which really make all the difference. Robin's mobile number was left with room information on the table for any concerns. We stayed in the two bed apartment with one double and two singles. There is a huge walk-in shower in the bathroom and the living room is of a generous size, with two sofas and a dining table. In the kitchen, everything you need to cook is provided. I was particularly impressed to see a box of washing tablets for the machine, and things like tin foil and tea towels, which can often be forgotten in self-caring accommodation. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of towels and replacement toilet rolls. The apartment got very warm during our stay - we were blessed with sunny days - so it was good that Robin had also pointed out the windows have locks to prevent them being opened too wide, keeping our kids safe. There is parking outside the lodge and whirlies for washing. The apartment is literally next door to the hotel and restaurant and the market square, which has a butcher, convenience store and a chip shop round the corner. We had takeaway from the restaurant on the first night and it was kindly delivered to our apartment by a very lovely friendly lady. The food was delicious and the portions were huge - excellent value for money. We loved our stay and would highly recommend the apartment and look forward to visiting again next time we are the area. ** Annoyingly TripAdvisor will not let me upload images of this property, which is a shame as there are not many already on here. I can vouch it's in good condition inside, with everything you need for a stay plus we had lovely views of the fields from our apartment **

The Lodges @ Barra Castle

Stylish accommodation

Reviewed By Shruggy

These lodges are a stylish choice when looking to stay in the Inverurie/Oldmeldrum area. The grounds are lovely, and you can see why Barra is a popular wedding venue. We stayed in the two bed lodge, which has one double and two singles - all very comfortable, with high quality bedding. There was an ample bathroom downstairs and generous sized shower room upstairs, modest open-plan sitting area and a kitchenette with an oven, hob, basic pans, utensils, crockery etc for cooking. It was a great little base for our five day visit - and I loved being able to pop into the farm shop next door for delicious fresh strawberries, raspberries and homemade granola. I took some jam and marmalade back home at the end of our trip. The lodges are a 10 minute drive from Inverurie and five from Oldmeldrum. Only niggles were the wastepaper bins throughout the lodge (apart from kitchen) did not have bin bags, the washing up liquid bottle had a minuscule dreg left in it and the washing up brush was filthy, to the point it had a yellow tinge. Halfway through our stay a housekeeper asked if we needed fresh towels, and mentioned the bins and brought a new large bottle of Fairy so I wonder if those finishing touches were missed as we arrived before she had finished sorting the lodge out? Not that we arrived early by any stretch of the imagination, getting there around teatime. In the grand scheme of things, not major but when hygiene is being ramped up due to Covid it’s a shame these things were missed so I’m flagging up in the hope they can be triple-checked for future guests. We stayed at a different apartment after Barra, which was cheaper, which provided a brand new bottle of washing liquid, fresh disposable dish cloths and a brand new washing up brush. It was good at least to see a bottle of anti-bac gel on the table as you entered the lodge. I also found it confusing there was no-one there to greet us upon arrival. Had to wander round the grounds til I found someone who worked there. We then walked together into the main building and they went into an office and left me outside without saying anything. She then came out and told me the key was in the door of the lodge and to let ourselves in. I presume that arrangement is to minimise contact in the pandemic but feel that information should be relayed to guests before arrival so they're aware. This is the reason for four not five stars.

Awful - avoid at all costs

Reviewed By Susan Y

Turned up at 5pm for a pre-booked one night stay, having confirmed my booking 3 days before to find the “hotel” all padlocked up and looking like a derelict building, with an accumulation of litter at the doors, filthy windows and a very neglected looking exterior. When I phoned to ask what was going on, I was told that they had been closed (to be fair, it was the first day post COVID lockdown) and that if I waited in the car park for half an hour, somebody would come and let me in. Needless to say, I advised that I would not be staying and the manager hung up on me!!! Didn’t see inside, so can’t comment on whether that was any better. Luckily, I found alternative accommodation just round the corner at Morris Hotel (at the same price) which was fabulous and great food, so every cloud has a silver lining.
