Good for a couple of nights away

Reviewed By Navigator15805204358

When we arrived, check in was really easy and straight forward, the receptionist was kind and helpful. Got into the room and wanted a cup of tea but have had previous bad experiences with premier inn milk being off so asked for fresh milk in the restaurant which was given free of charge both days which was nice. The room was very small, fairly clean but it definitely needs a revamp! Paintwork was chipped and marked and looked dirty. But overall it was good for a couple of nights when only in the room for the evenings.

This is a lovely old building with a lot of history. It used to be a bakery and a mill, and there is more than a nod to the past, which I always find interesting. I was welcomed warmly, the room was clean enough although the bed just a bit too soft for my likeing, and there is no way the shower could be described as a power shower! I had a decent enough evening meal in the restaurant, with a decent enough pint of ale from a hand pump........BUT Oh my goodness. I was in a room adjacent to the main road and every time a lorry went past (and it's a busy road), the noise was so loud, and the windows and room actually shook. Happily the lorries dont pass by all night, but they do tend to start their morning runs around 05.00am. Further sleep was impossible. I don't know what it was like on the car park side of the hotel, but the road side is awful. Its a real shame, as it really is a lovely old building, with character and history, but it's put me off staying here again.

Average stay

This was booked last minutes for an overnight work stay, due to the usual places not being available. There was ample parking available, the young girl that checked me in was very friendly and helpful and directly me to my room. The room was up two flights of old stairs, there are no lifts, the whole place looks a bit old and worn but it was clean. The room was small and hotter than hell, there was only tiny window that offered little air. The room was very clean but tired looking again. The bathroom looked much newer than the room, recent upgrade maybe. I was woken up at 4am by something in the corridor, a fire alarm or something similar making a loud, shrill beeping noise going off every 5-10 seconds. I called the reception and they dealt with it quickly but by that point I was already awake. This is certainly not a bad hotel and for a night it did the job but for £110 there was better local options in my opinion. Won’t be leaving it so late to book next time.
