Excellent little family run hotel in the centre of Newark. Modern and immaculately clean rooms with very friendly staff. The family went out of their way to help when I left my Kindle there! I didn’t eat there so can’t comment on the food but it smelled delicious.

Misrepresentation

Reviewed By Clare M

We booked via an app which had several photos of a laid out restaurant and talked of fine dining - none of which was available! Even breakfast was an unattended continental that wasn't restocked. Packet Danish and croissant - not even fresh! Fruit was a plate of semi solid melon - given it was out on the table it felt semi-frozen On check out the receptionist showed no interest in whether we'd enjoyed our stay - maybe because she guessed it was disappointing or maybe because they don't care. Oh and no one on site at night - a message on the reception phone a number - not a lot of use if there's a problem stopping you getting to reception

Perfect for what we needed

Visited with three kids in Feb 2021 and were looking for basic but comfortable accommodation in Southwell, close to the NTU campus. We were very happy with what the Crown provided, with basic but comfortable rooms above a pub which was friendly, welcoming and reasonably priced. The staff were extremely helpful, and the value for money excellent.

Poor takeaway

Reviewed By 434cassiett

I ordered a burger to take away whilst staying locally. Ordered to pick it up at a certain time but I got it and the burger was inedible, and the chips and onion ring very soggy. I don’t know if this was because they had it ready long before the time I was collecting it but it was a complete waste of money and maybe one of the worst burgers I’ve had… Must be better to eat in but they shouldn’t offer takeaway if they can’t do it half way decently.

The perfect place

Reviewed By TraceyCull

If you haven’t stayed here before, then why not. Manor Court is just the most perfect place to stay. We hired all the bedrooms for my daughters wedding this past weekend. The rooms are just so opulent and decorated to the highest standard. The house itself is beautifully presented. Julie and her husband were the perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We were made to feel so welcome in what is also their personal house. Of course our daughter had the bridal suite which was just stunning, as of course were the other rooms. Breakfast on the morning of the wedding was fabulous. There were cereals, juices, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee, toast and of course the full cooked breakfast. They also gave us glasses of Buck’s Fizz. We had also arranged for them to collect the bride and groom from the reception venue which again was no trouble for them. We cannot praise this place highly enough and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

A lovely relaxing overnight stay

We recently stayed at the new Travel Lodge in the centre of Newark's Town. We checked in at around 5.30pm with 2 dogs. The receptionist was very welcoming and explained how to use the key cards and gave us directions to our room. The room was lovely and clean and fresh. Had a relaxing stay overnight The bathroom facilities were clean and well maintained. The only negative was that there was no bath as we were looking forward to having one after a long day out. We would definitely stay again as it it close to all the shops and restaurants

The Lions Bed and Breakfast

The Lions is a small boutique bed and breakfast located at 55, London Road, Newark, Nottinghamshire, NG24 1RZ, that offers comfort and a place to relax that is truly a home from home. It is a beautiful, Grade II listed, detached town house that is one of the finest in Newark. It is run by Pablo Petit- Breuilh and John Taylor and draws upon Pablo’s experience of international travel and tourism and John’s experience of growing up locally; both Pablo and John will work tirelessly to ensure your stay is an excellent one. Newark is a beautiful market town, sitting on the banks of the river Trent in the East Midlands, it is steeped in history, being a Royalist stronghold and besieged in the English Civil War. Now in more peaceful times Newark is famed for its antique shops and centres and hosts the bi-monthly International Antique Fair at the Newark Showground, where other equally prestigious events and activities regularly take place. St Mary Magdalene, Newark’s medieval parish church with its magnificent spire is one of the largest and finest parish churches in the country. There is a hole visible in the spire marking the spot where the shot from a Parliamentarian cannon is said to have struck the church in 1664 during the Civil War. Newark has something for everyone, whether it’s a visit to one the numerous retailers – both chain and independent or to the thriving market; exploring the castle ruins; a river boat ride; a walk to the Sconce and Devon Park; a night of culture or entrainment at the Palace Theatre; a visit to the Newark Air Museum or coming in 2015, a visit to the new National Civil War Centre. Newark and the surrounding area is steeped in brewing history. Alas, it now has no major players left, but in the immediate area it has several excellent micro-breweries and has re-established itself on the map for having a range of establishments offering Real Ale. Newark is conveniently situated for Southwell and its Race Course, Minster and The National Trust’s Workhouse; Sherwood Forest and The Major Oak; The National Holocaust Centre and Museum at Laxton; The National Trust at Belton House (Grantham), Clumber Park and Mr Straw’s House (Worksop) whilst not forgetting the many attractions in Lincoln and Nottingham. The house has a front garden with parking facilities. The rear garden offers a well-kept space comprising of a large lawn, flower beds, shrubs and tree and provides guests with the possibility to have breakfast, lunch or, perhaps in the summer, supper, outdoors on the patio; where they can enjoy a beautiful and peaceful setting. The Lions is centrally located, being 10 minute walk from the market square and shops and is about 15 minute walk from either Newark North Gate or Castle Railway Stations. London is about one hour twenty minutes away by train and Lincoln and Nottingham are approximately thirty minutes away to the East and West, respectively. Bus can be caught to all the local towns and cities. Newark is situated close to the A1, A17 and A46 and so has excellent road links. East Midlands International Airport is thirty four miles away. The Lions offer four tastefully decorated rooms in a traditional style and provide comfortable beds with high quality bed linen and towels. The rooms all have flat screen, smart televisions that offer Freeview, Internet access and the facility to play CDs and DVDs; free access to Wi-Fi; tea and coffee making facilities; radio alarm clocks and hair dryers. Irons and Ironing Boards are provided free of charge, to their rooms, to any guests who require them. High quality soap and shower and bath gel are provided in all rooms.

Boot & Shoe Inn

The Boot and Shoe Inn sits in the conservation village of Flintham on the edge of the Vale of Belvoir. Parts of the inn date back to the 17th century and we are great believers in tradition - we concentrate on traditional ales and homemade food. We have a fabulous qualified chef cooking for our newly refurbished restaurant. The village is very quiet so you are assured of a good nights sleep in our b&b but are within a 15 to 20 minute drive there are a host of attractions for you to enjoy.

Superb find! Fabulous pub!

Reviewed By HelenW3043

Stayed for 1 night following a day at Eden Hall Day Spa (5 min drive away). Situated in a beautiful, quaint, country village we parked on the main street right outside the pub. We arrived around 6.30 to a warm welcome from the staff. We were staying in the family room which was spacious and clean. Lovely, comfy beds and facilities (tea, coffee, toiletries). Our evening meal was wonderful - I had the braised blade of beef and my friend the 1/2 roast chicken. I was tempted by the Guiness Doughnut Cake for dessert which was simply lush!!! A bottle of Prosecco later and we got chatting to the locals who made us feel really welcome. A restful nights' sleep was had by both of us. Breakfast included fresh fruit, yoghurts, cereals, meats, cheeses, toast and preserves. All lovely and fresh and tasty. All of the staff were lovely and I would definitely recommend staying here. If I was ever travelling over that way again, I would return for sure!
