Staff and hotel good, resort not so good

Reviewed By stevejG864BV

I visited at the beginning of the season and in Ramadam, so please take this into account when reading my review. What makes this hotel is the staff and the French guests! This is a mainly French-speaking guest hotel, but they were all friendly and made the effort as I don't speak French. The hotel staff were good and did make a lot of effort for you. I appreciate that this is a tip based culture but nonetheless I still felt they wanted to help throughout my stay. The food was okay, they are trying to cater for long periods of eating and so the food did sit there, so often it was cold or at best warm. There were lots of options throughout the meals, including salad. The sweet section was probably the best, to be honest. They tried very hard with at least two freshly cooked items section, but sometimes they cooked off some of this food beforehand. Drinks - The beer was very good, red wine was not so, cocktails were okay but basic. I have no complaints as you have to respect this is a country where alcohol is not part of their culture. Facilities - room was good, big bed, clean and so no complaints. The hotel did not look that tired which considering COVID and looking at some of the other hotels it has been kept in good condition. Safe is 3 dinar a day, you felt you had to pay for every extra, some of which should have been part of the price. WIFI was good and I had it throughout my room and hotel at no extra cost. TV had next to no English speaking, but that is life! Animation staff are very enthusiastic, so I was probably their nightmare as I wasn't interested in their entertainment. This was throughout the day including dancing by the pool, bowls and the evening entertainment, which felt basic. They were polite, friendly, lively so if you are taking the kids they will definitely appeal, as they do to guests in their early 20s The local area is a big drawback as I got frustrated leaving the hotel and having people pretending to work at the hotel asking for tips and they could be difficult if you were firm with them! There were many hawkers who were better, but I did have some begging when I didn't want to buy anything. Taxis tried to rip you off and that just stopped me from wanting to go out. Positive is the beach, I went on a long walk, walking in the sea and that was lovely. Yes, the people still started to get involved with you, but I just walked deeper in the water and made it clear I was not interested, pretending I could not hear them. Shopping - There is a shop within the hotel but the shopkeeper, in the end, was a pain and I actively avoided him by changing my route to and from the bar/restaurant. There are two Medinas one new and one old, the latter I did not go to the latter as I did not want the hassle of walking the 2km or having the pain of the taxi drivers trying to charge 70 Dinar. If you want to buy anything and do the Tunis tour Tunis Medina has so much more. Cash Points I was advised to go to ones attached to banks, but at Carthage land where the new Medina felt safe as there were security guards. I did get charged 12 Dinar for using it. Health and Wellbeing, this was okay, not cheap, but you can choose if I am being mean here. The sales guy will get to you on day one (trust me, but then leaves you alone) They offer you a four day 2 hour deal at £200 which shocked me as that is a lot of money full stop. I did the one day, 2 hours (it was probably closer to 1 1/2 hours) I definitely felt relaxed and the massage part was as good as I have had anywhere. Trips - Within the hotel, there is a guy who has basically two trips but if you walk from reception past the shop and you will see lists of different companies and trips they do, so there are a lot of options. I think later in the season more people will be present. The guy who was the only one based in the hotel was only offering quad biking and a ship ride on a motorised modern replica pirate ship. I did find him a little bit hard sale, but I went on the Quad bike at 50 (pounds). He promised you would have tea with the bedouin but that never happened, but that could have been a seasonal thing. It wasn't cheap when you consider everything, but you were out and about for 90 minutes, though did stop for about 20 minutes in the middle of nowhere, no refreshments, just a break from riding. It is slow driving, but I was at the back and let a gap build and then zoom, plus they do take those who want to go fast off and keep a slower group. I did enjoy it a lot though. TSS who did the transfers came to see you and offered about four trips. They have a 2-day trip which does a lot and stays overnight in a hotel etc. Out of season, they wanted £300 PP, seriously who goes on holiday expecting to spend £600 as a couple. I went on the day trip for £41 which was okay, again this was at the beginning of the season and many this would change. You start at 0900hours and the guide is great, really liked him. You drive for about an hour to Tunis and then go to Sidi Bou Said, which is beautiful but very small. For 5 Dinar you can go into one of the houses and have tea it's so worth it, especially with the guide. The view of the bay is beautiful but outside of that it's about being hassled with the shops which all sell the same thing, I would say do go into some of the ones on the left as you walk back down the hill as the inside of the building is amazing architecture. You are there for 2 hours far too long. Then you have lunch in Tunis which is okay and the finally go into Tunis, it felt safe, to be honest. The Medina was lovely and interesting, but the guide did not want you to go off the main street. Again 2 hours was too long and everyone was back earlier. Transfers - I paid 38 pounds through Lovel Holiday, but shop around as I was told by someone they paid 7 and Easy Jet was 16. I am glad I went to Tunisia but I am definitely not planning on another visit anytime soon.

An honest review....but a horrible resort

Reviewed By Alin G

I just been there for a week and find this hotel awful, it is a shame for Steigenberger hotels chain. Forget about 4* or 5* resort. Very, very rude people, no customers service at all. Simply, they don’t care about the clients. During our evenings/nights it is an incredible noisy around, playing loud music for a bunch of people. Food it is not eatable, very repetitive, it is not tasty, they offer you just fatty chicken, ox liver and poor beef like chewing gum also fish is horrible. All food is smelling badly. I have had strong stomach upset because the food it is not fresh. In conclusion, this is a maximum 2* hotel, it should be removed from Steingenberger chain ASAP. Not recommended, stay away from them if you don’t want to ruin your holiday!

Fantastic holiday with family of 10

Reviewed By 867belindal

We visited at the beginning of April as a family group of 10. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. Food was excellent with a good range. Staff were attentive and made everything special. We had a lot of fun with the animation team, Rico, Emy & the DJ (sorry forgot your name!). The waiters were amazing and our granddaughter had her birthday while we were staying and they decorated our table and made her day very special. We ate at 2 of the "dine around" restaurants but there is no point really as the restaurant in the hotel was far better. Other staff, photographer, trip salesmen, cleaners, reception etc were all very friendly and helpful. Yes, the outdoor pool was very cold but we still had fun in there and the weather was warm enough to sunbathe as well. Bonus of an indoor heated pool was very welcome. All in all a fantastic family holiday. Papa & Muma

The food was good - you might a great selection of food, a lots of sweats, fresh orange juice to breakfast. The localization was very good because we had only few meters to shops and cafeterias. Hotel has a nice garden, Aquapark and pool with lots of sun loungers. The beach is very close - you must to go down the stairs and you are already in the beach. At the end - Hammamet Beach has the best animators!! They always smiling for clients and talking with them. They are very funny and they are good dancers so they always had a perfect disco, cabaret show and animation’s dances. ♥️♥️ All of the time they had a lots of activity to offer to the client for example: beach volleyball, fitness, games in kids club, ping pong, water games. Extremely disappointed/dissatisfied/dis-whatever wanna call it!!!

After staying 4 nights in the Radisson blu Hammamet here is my pros and cons. Pros -Reservation process went smooth and an upgrade to the sea view room was granted as promised per my booking.com genius level. -Team members are polite but….. (see in the cons). -Beach is super clean and beautiful. -Big swimming pool. Cons -Upon arrival no body was at the entrance, I had to drop my wife and kid, Get the luggage off the car and go park it myself! -No luggage boy to help with the luggage neither upon arrival nor after the check in! -Hotel orientation was not giving, we were even lost on how to get to the elevator. -We were assigned to an occupied room and luckily the HKP manager was in front of it and told us to not open the door as there are some other guests inside! -5 min later We’ve got a room which basically was not prepared, No bathrobes, Water wasn’t there, AC wasn’t on, kettle and sugar are in there but no coffee/tea nor cups! -We always keep the room on DND as we don’t need the cleaning service on daily basis but on the 3rd day of our stay we called the reception at 9am for room make up but it wasn’t done, We called the Housekeeping at 17:00 but it wasn’t done then we asked again the reception at 19:00! -The room make up or the turndown service was done in a very bad way, basically the person who did it just made up the bed and left, 7 empty bottles are still in the room till the moment we checked out, towels were not replaced, Toilet paper was not giving! -Called again at 9pm to get some toilet paper and water but only toilet paper were giving! -Breakfast is quite boring and very basic, nothing much in the buffet! -Pool bar, the Bistrot restaurant and the in room dining uses the same empty basic menu! -Pizza Margarita was bitter as it was made with blue cheese and curry sauce! -the team is lacking a proper training and proper stress management skills (two team members were fighting in front of guests over tips sharing topic! -Broken flushing system in toilet since we checked in! -The FOM gave me an appointment on the 3rd of June at 15:15 to discuss my disappointment but she never showed up, though she called and apologized for the no show! -During ou last breakfast in the hotel I ordered a vegetable soup for my 3 year old son to be served at 11:30am in the room but it wasn’t served till 12:10 after i called the In room dining more than 3 times and it was served without even a spoon, so the 3 year old kid is supposed to drink the soup!! -Kids Club was one of the main reasons we choose this property as it was advertised on booking.com website and the hotel website itself, But it came to our shock when we arrived and founded it like a zombie town, it was closed, toys were thrown outside and not a single soul was around! -On the departure day, after so many complaints and so many meetings with so many people, No service recovery was offered whatsoever! wouldn’t wish this terrible holiday to my worst enemy!!!
