We had a delightful dinner at Muhu. The food was very good; the service was leisurely but excellent. Two quibbles that bear mention. They have mosquitoes dining on the diners, while the diners are enjoying their dinner. We were more amused than annoyed ... swatting bugs was somewhat of a competition (my wife and I got three each, the kids were less skilled). Also, they're a little rigid about their three, five, seven and nine course selections. They allowed one swap for the pescetarians in the group. But, for those who wanted the salad, which is part of the nine course dinner, but not the five or seven, we offered to pay extra to get it, but it was a "no." Not a big deal, and we did have a lovely evening. But, be aware of these minor issues. Ask for the chef's table. (We were in the dining room, but we saw the chef's table, which is lovely and private)

I arrived only to be told the restaurant was closed due to a wedding the next day. However, the chef came out and said she would gladly make a meal for me! What an awesome time! I had wild boar with mashed potatoes. A little spicy which I like. The restaurant is a must.

Kalakohvik is an eatery with an emphasis on simple fish dishes. Our raw ingredients come direct from local waters, including Baltic herring, flounder, perch and pike. We use fish to make soup, full meals and other special dishes. Our back room will comfortably accommodate up to 15-20 people and in summer, outside, there is plenty of room for everyone. We also sell maritime charts, fishing equipment and souvenirs.
Tiny, simple, clean restaurant set back from the main road; we arrived latish for lunch and found three of five main courses were sold out. We ordered a salad each for starters having been told they were small. One between two would have been fine. The locals clearly have big appetites!
When the main course arrived, my wife thought her baked stuffed herring fillets were so good that she asked for the recipe. My flounders were tiny skeletons of bone surrounded by a little flesh and lots of batter which was not very enjoyable. The recommendation is to arrive earlier than we did. The meal was very reasonable, fruit juice was cheap and it was nice to sample local cooking.
Summary: Nice place; nice people; nice background music, reasonably priced; useful if you are in Muhu.

The chefs of the restaurant, which is located in a former dairy building in the heart of Muhu, uses many vegetables, fresh herbs, salad, fruit, etc., grown on the island when cooking. Special mention goes to ostrich meat, which is used to make an exotic ostrich stir-fry. In addition to Mediterranean-style pasta, salads and soups, our menu also offers you home-style roast pork, solyanka and pancakes. Muhu handicrafts are dominant in the restaurant’s decor.
Nice home interior. Welcome drinks as water with lemon and honey with bread. Friendly staff, though not all are fluent in english. They got a restaurant and a cafe on the other side. Both have a slight difference in variety of choice. Local craft beer selection. Menu is in Estonian, so were obliged to ask for explanation. Pasta was simply cooked. Pork was rather nice. Thank you anyway.

The Valge Varese Tavern offers simple and homey traditional Estonian food. We use the produce from the Saaremaa meat plant and local vegetable growers in our dishes. There are two rooms housing a total of 90 persons, and a summer Terrace in the tavern.
In case you are looking to taste the truly authentic, here's your place. No frills, very "home-made" - it does not get any more rustic or authentic as this place. The food is obviously not very good (some might say it's terrible), but remember - you are here for the experience, not the food - the food just fills your stomach.

We have visited this place on our way back to Tallinn, late afternoon. First impression - very nice, friendly staff. Picturesque views of the Bay and Garden. Relaxed atmosphere. We did not have enough time to spend at the restaurant due to ferry scheduling, so we ordered coffee and Deserts, which were delicious, prepared on the premises and well presented. I wish we had more time to spend at the place, but even spending less than an hour or so, gave us a very good impression of the restaurant. To the restaurant staff: Job Well Done!!!

Delicious little pancakes with strawberry jam. You have to try these! Did not try anything else but the salads also looked very good.

In Muhu there are not too many places for reasonable lunch. Restaurants set-up is a bit strange. Menu is not long, but long enough to find something. I took as appetizer a fried baltic herring (nostalgic). This was very good. Chocolate fondant with local ice-cream was also good. The other dishes were not bad but nothing special. Ingredients were all fresh.
