Its name comes from the Nahuatl and means "place where arrows to hunt deer are made"; its area is 177.18 km. According to Count II Population and Housing, the municipality has 11671 inhabitants who are devoted mainly to the tertiary sector. The main reason for visiting the beautiful mountain retreat is not for the food, but the experience of a Mexican "magic town". There is only one per state, and Mazamitia is the one for Jalisco.Restaurant El Charo has good basic food, well presented and with a friendly service. There are no English translations.

Ubicado frente a la plaza principal de Mazamitla, Justo al lado de la Presidencia Municipal. Llama la atención entre todo lo disponible para comer en torno a la plaza por su orden y limpieza, fachada discreta aunque de gran aforo al interior, una opción recomendable por la variedad de su menú. No es caro, servicio rápido, platillos abundantes y una gran variedad de salsas para aderezar la comida. La comida se prepara a la vista, al fondo del restaurante. Se come cómodo y rico.
