this is a special experience, the moreso because of the presence on-site of the weathered, well-maintained Underground Railroad "station" in the barn out back... nice service, pleasant spot, but do make sure they're open, as it's family-operated and subject to the whims of minimal (but sincere) staffing

Second trip to this establishment and same great meal at a good price.
$12.95 Sunday only specials include Turkey dinner, chicken and biscuits, pot roast dinner. All come with a large salad or soup and choice of dessert!
This is a casual restaraunt with a variety of antiques, craft items, brick a brack and candy attached All set in what once was a farmers market of some sort.
Close to Niagara Wine Trail and Olcott Beach, another treasure.
Service was really good.

We stopped by for lunch during their Oktoberfest party. My husband ordered one of their German lunch specials with sausage, potato pancake and sauerkraut. I had the house salad with a burger. Our wait for the food was a little long given what we ordered. My burger was excellent. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. My husband was not fond of the consistency of the sausage. It was a little dry and crumbly. He needed a lot of mustard to moisten it up. The portion size was large. I don't think we would return for Oktoberfest but will definitely go back for the beer and another burger or two.

Scotchies is a simple old fashioned ice cream shop located in the Village of Newane on route 78. Nothing homemade here - it's Perry's Ice Cream. What makes Scotchies a standout are the real thick milkshakes and the friendly atmosphere. The owner "Scotchie" is a real nice and personable guy. Expect to spend at least a few minutes shooting the breeze with him. This is one of those places that when you enter you suddenly feel happy. It's small town Americana in its purest form. I recommend as a stop to / from visiting Olcott Beach. So here's your plan - Visit Olcott, get some Bye's Popcorn, and then cool off at Scotchies. Once you get home be sure to salute the flag and watch some baseball.
Note - Parking is a bit difficult. You'll need to find a spot on the street

After a beautiful drive we enjoyed a choice of outdoor patio or indoor climate controlled seating. Service was polite , well informed and attentive. The restaurant is clean, comfortable and the food was excellent. My only issue was that there were no handicapped bathrooms or at least assistive bars in the rooms they have

My wife and I have been loyal customers of Cafora's for almost 40 years. We've witnessed the family owned business be passed on from generation to generation. Their Italian entrees are delicious; the pizzas out of this world. We would either have a dinner or eat-in pizza two or three times per month, or order a pizza for take-out every couple of weeks. The pizza was worth the 18 mile round trip ride to pick it up. We went there for dinner last night with two other couples. My wife and I were being welcomed back home after Snow Birding in Florida for the last 5 months. Each couple ordered an appetizer; one couple ordered onion petals, the other couple fried Zucchini. My wife and I ordered Garlic Toast Supreme. We all planned to share our appetizers. The onion petals arrived and then the fried Zucchini, but no Garlic Toast besides being assure by our server that it would be right out. Many minutes passed and the appetizers that were delivered were long gone. I tried flagging down the server several times and finally got her attention to cancel the order. We decided the small loaf of bread that comes with the entrée would have to suffice. My entrée order was Linguini with Red Clam Sauce. I was presented with a huge platter that was a combination platter/shallow bowl. Other than the pizzas, this meal was my second favorite for many years. It took a few minutes for me to collect my thoughts about what was different about my order. The amount of pasta in the platter/bowl did not even break the plane of the bowl rim (height wise). I have always been served this meal on the same style dish as long as I can remember and I have had to struggle at times to finish the portion which was heaped high with pasta and a sauce generously infused with large chunks of clam. My offering last night was paltry to say the least. How much does a handful of pasta cost? I don't know if the cook did not portion out the servings from the kettle properly and I got the short end, I don't know, but what I had was swimming in sauce with barely a noodle showing. The amount of sauce was probably more valuable than the pasta it was covering. Anyhow, since we have been away from home for extended periods of time for four years now, changes in food serving sizes are much more apparent than trying to assess slowly dwindling portions when you visit multiple times per month. It's like being astounded how much your grandchildren change when not seeing them in person for 5 months. Even with that observation, one of the other husbands ordered Chicken Parmesan and commented about the lack of chicken and an excessive amount of breading I do know that the cost of their exquisite pizzas have risen steadily form the $14 - $16 dollar range over the last couple of years to nearly bumping the $20 mark with 2 or 3 toppings. There becomes a breaking point between quality and value I guess. We are not sure what family member is running the business at this time, if at all, I don't believe that Increasing profit margin and downsizing meal portions was the business plan of the Cafora family when they ventured into the restaurant business, rather value and quality prevailed. You can't satisfy long term customers on reputation forever.

While in Olcott for the season we look forward to Mariner's Landing. Their food has always been delicious. The New England Style Clam Chowder and "monster" size Coconut Shrimp are the best. Make sure to ask for the Raspberry/Jalapeño sauce to dip the shrimp in! Enjoy!

The setting is terrific. The decor is okay. But the service was slow and the food was...well, not finished. First of all, we waited forever for a server to come to take our drink order. (And we were suprised to be asked if we wanted a glass for our drinks, or if we wanted it out of the can.) The menu was varied, with some interesting items -- like the stuffed portobello. The Ceasar salad could have been a lot better, but they simply chopped the root off a Romaine, poured a little dressing on it, tossed on some bacon, cheese, and tomato and served it whole. (We were warned that it wasn't chopped, but hadn't imagined what we'd get.) The problem is that you get dressing on the end, but then you're left with these huge lettuce leaves in your bowl. That's it! Big, bare lettuce leaves. The shrimp on top obviously were not fresh...and just on the cusp of being bad. I was really disappointed because the place is in such a nice setting. Will go to the Wilson Boat House...where they have someone to chop the lettuce in your salad, and ensure that the dressing actually coats it.

This is your typical small town American diner. We came here for breakfast. My son got pancakes shaped like mouse ears. Nothing spectacular but it was inexpensive and the food was decent. They could improve the air conditioning and fix the drop ceiling. Recommended if on your way to Olcott and looking for a quick and simple meal.
