The Village Grill

Reviewed By doobiepapa - Atlanta

Abbeville is a neat town with a long history, but it's not necessarily where you would expect to find a restaurant as fine as The Village Grill. The Grill has more the atmosphere, menu, and quality you would expect to find in the "hip" neighborhood of a large city (such as Atlanta). The food is locally sourced when possible, and all of the sauces, etc. are made from scratch.
We were a party of four and each got something different. We each wanted the others to taste what we ordered, because it was all too good not to share a sample. (But only a sample, because it was too good to give away.) I had the special of the day, which was corn flake crusted catfish, and it was delicious!
The place fills up quickly, so try to get there just before it opens. But it's worth the wait if you have to wait.

Main Street Coffee Company

Favorite place of many locals, especially morning, lunch, and after Opera House Plays. They roast their own coffee beans. Excellent salads, sandwiches, and SWEETS. My favorite lunch item is the BBQ Salad, served with corn chips on top and a special spicy dressing that is perfect with this. Staff are attentive, courteous, accommodating, and friendly. Of course we expect that in a small Southern town and complain if we do not receive that from ANY local restaurant in Abbeville, SC. Always offer at least 3 coffee brew types daily, as well as tea, and soft drinks. Casual, cozy, atmosphere. Free WiFi.

The rotating beer selections of Southeastern craft brews is nice, both the few on tap and those in bottles. It is a great place to hang out with friends and have appetizers (I have not tried the full menu). As a happy surprise, you can also get a good cup of tea in there. If you are sitting in the window seats reading, people tend to leave you alone, which is really nice.

Frequent visitor to rough house. Best hot dogs in the area. No comparison to other well known hot dog places in area. Very friendly owner and staff. You can always feel at home. Just pull up a bar stool or any other seat and enjoy the history of the roughhouse!!

Nice authentic Mexican on the square in Abbeville. Very similar menu as the Monterray's chain in the Greenville area. My favorite Polo Fundido was even better than Monterray's and a dollar cheaper for more food. Very casual. Went on Saturday for lunch with absolutely no crowd.

Yoder's Dutch Kitchen

Reviewed By Citallwic - Columbia, South Carolina

My wife and I are seldom in complete agreement about a dining experience, but we were in perfect synch about our recent lunch at Yoder’s Dutch Kitchen. We both felt that the service was very good and the quality of the food was hit-or-miss and generally disappointing. This came as a surprise, since we had seen quite a few favorable reviews of Yoder’s and several Saluda area residents that we talked to had recommended the place. One local did tell us she believed that food quality at Yoder’s has slipped significantly, and our experience has left us wishing that we had heeded her advice to dine elsewhere. My buffet lunch centered on salmon cake, fried fish and fried chicken. The salmon cake was overcooked and unusually dense, about like a hamburger patty. The fried fish pieces (not filets) consisted mostly of greasy breading surrounding thin strips of what I was told was pollock. The chicken was okay, but the typical meat-and-three eatery in South Carolina serves tastier fried chicken. Yoder’s cabbage casserole, an unusual dish, was absolutely delicious. The banana cream pie was generously portioned and very tasty. We got exceptionally friendly service.

This was our first visit to Abbeville...in search of buying a house. We decided to grab a quick lunch at the Talk-of-the-Town Eatery. What a smart choice. The atmosphere was so homey, the food was delicious, and our waitress was awesome. We felt like we not only got a great meal...but we made our first friends in the process!

Kudos to Roxie and Shirley...thanks for making our day. We plan to return once we close on our new home. You made us feel so welcome. Keep up the good work!!

Theo's Deli & Seafood Restaurant

Reviewed By captmorgan40 - McCormick, SC

I don't understand why this place does not have a higher rating in Greenwood. The food is very good and prices are very reasonable. We split a Philly Cheese Steak for lunch and it piled high with meat, sauteed onions, mushrooms, green peppers and lots of cheese. The roll was good also. With a side of onions rings it was plenty to eat. The 12" sandwich was $9.95. The most expensive item on the dinner menu is a Fisherman's Platter for $12.50. We'll definitely be going back.

China Kitchen

Recently reopened after they closed for the month of June to remodel and spruce up the dining room. Has all the standard items you would expect from a Chinese restaurant: Fried rices, egg rolls, etc. made to order. Nice, convenient place right on the square.
