We happened across the Three Horseshoes after visiting Warham Iron Age Fort. We just had the filled rolls but they were delicious! Excellent quality ingredients & great chips, lovely service & interesting, original decor in the main bar - would definitely recommend.

We were at Holkham Hall for a weekend as husbands were competing at the Outlaw Holkham Half. Initially we had planned to order pizza, but decided on a nicer meal to celebrate a fantastic weekend with 4 couples. We arrived at 7pm to be greeted by the owner, a lovely, but quirky Danish gentleman called Carsten, who looked after the front of house. Whether ordering a drink at the bar or ordering food, any interaction brought a smile to your face. The food came out in good time with no delays, looked beautifully homemade and tasted fantastic, prepared by Carsten’s wife Sue. All-in-all we had a fantastic celebratory meal and will be sure to return there if we ever find ourselves in the neighbourhood again!

We stay in a cottage on Stiffkey at least once a year and have visited the Red Lion several times in the past. Previously it has been OK but nothing special, but this year they seem to have upped their game. The service was very friendly and the menu is a bit more extensive. We both had the cod and chips which was excellent. Our 2 dogs were made very welcome, in fact virtually everyone in the pub had dogs with them.We have already booked to return later in the week.

If you like frozen Yorkshire Pudding, peas and chips and lumpy mash this is the place for you. We went for lunch with my daughter and grandson and were disappointed with the quality and over price - the frozen chips were so dreadful I left them and the sausage sandwich came on two slices of ordinary sliced processed bread priced at £7.99. Extremely disappointed.

Had dinner here on a recent stay in Wells. The food was delicious - sea bass and tuna with tasty fishy starters too. It was a pretty quiet evening so the atmosphere was a little lacking - though we had been in for a drink on another evening when the place was heaving and very lively. Service was efficient, but if I'm being honest, not over friendly at times. Would still recommend as the food was lovely.

A higgledy piggedly quirky building with a rustic feel .Freddie dog made welcome too .Generous portions , freshly cooked . Although we didn’t sample them the home made pizzas looked amazing .Good selection on the menu including great seafood platter , local butchers burger , gammon etc Generous portions and unhurried service .Would imagine it’s very busy in the season but plenty of outsider seating to relieve pressure on the rooms inside

Visited The Crown on Saturday, the 10th of August and had a fantastic meal! The oysters were to die for – I have never had such beautiful oysters before. All of the other dishes were served beautifully and the produce was top quality. The service for a table of 10 was absolutely excellent and our waitress was friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant a quiet buzz that enabled you to chat but know that you were in a popular place.Definitely worth a visit and one of the best places in this location.

The Bowling Green Inn

Reviewed By DINERMIGHT

As with so many things, there seems to be a standard formula for pubs now, paint it with some subdued tones, alter the name slightly to make it more jaunty eg 'The Sailor' becomes the 'The Jolly Sailor', print everything to look like blackboards, add a conservatory (but call it an Orangery), locally source your food, triple the price and add some staff for whom smiling is against their human rights and stuff. If that model is your comfort zone you won't like The Bowling Green. Its what you might call traditional in decor, a lot of brown furniture and the ceiling is cream with a touch of nicotine - but don't let that put you off. It doesn't smell of smoke, it doesn't smell of beer, its clean and tidy and therefore bypasses all those reasons the clone pubs mentioned above killed off the drinkers dens of the past. It looks classic but serves a fine and tasty menu at a reasonable price, has a good range of spirits and beers and has a secret weapon in the form of the staff. They're like the landladies of the past that put the life and soul into the establishment, friendly, welcoming, full of personality. Laughing at the punters terrible jokes, cheerily wiping up the spills, its like a glimpse into the ideal pub of yesterday but without the smoke, menu limited to pork scratchings (or 'Big D' nuts) and old bloke staring at you from the corner of the bar whilst muttering to himself.Well done The Bowling Green for being unpretentious and genuine, keep it up.
