A group of friends went for our monthly meal on 18th. It was a first time for most of us and we would return. The food was very good although some found the portions on the large size. Personally my Steak and Kidney pudding was as good as it gets. Lovely old beamed pub and good beer and service.

McTaggarts

McTaggarts is a family run pub andrestaurant set in the heart of the pretty Norfolk village of Ashill. We offer both an a la carte and a traditional bar menu.

My wife and I were lucky enough to be invited to a private birthday party at McTaggarts for a three course meal. I believe there were around 32 guests. We'd all pre-ordered our courses and I have to say that the quality and quanitity of the food together with the service were all of an extremely high standard. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience here and would highly recommend dining here to others. It's not the typical village pub and looks more of a wine bar in the inside.

We popped in for a quick lunchtime drink and ended up having lunch here. The interior has had a fabulous make over, very nicely done. Lovely decor and pictures. Spotlessly clean and very friendly staff. The food was really good, nice and hot and of good quality. There was 1 small issue, the bottle of white wine we requested was not in stock, we were offered an alternative which we agreed but it was not chilled. We didn’t want to complain as everything was so good. We have booked to go back for Sunday lunch.

Family friendly run business that offers everything a good village pub should have! Good food, relaxed bar and good service

Attractive nearby village to home, enticed me and wife to visit the pub. Welcoming, friendly and attentive owner (Paul) served our drinks, a smile and the small menu (always a good sign to me, showing that the Chef focuses on what they do best). I ordered the beef lasagne, it was piping hot and perfectly seasoned, a really very tasty, good looking dish. Served with crunchy garlic bread & a fresh, crisp rocket & Parmesan salad. My wife ordered the Fish Pie, which looked amazing, full of perfectly cooked salmon, cod & haddock in a creamy wine & parsley sauce, heavenly said the wife. We were too full to try the deserts on offer, but noticed glowing comments about them from a neighbouring table. We planned our next visit to this outstanding pub, on the short drive home.

Hare and Barrel

3 retired RAF guys flew up to Shipdham to see me because through medical indisposition I could not make the 59th anniversary reunion (in London) of our passing out parade from initial traing school at RAF South Cerney in 1959. They stayed at the Hare and Barrel and I joined them for a bar meal in the evening. We are very well looked after, the menu was varied and extensive, and was excellent value for money.

We were exploring the Norfolk area and decided to stay here. The room was quite spacious and had everything we needed. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Dinner was quite good in the pub. We also took advantage of the breakfast. The breakfast staff had overslept (which they profusely apologized for) so we didn't eat as early as we had wanted to but when the chef came he was so kind and pleasant and the food was so good that it was worth the extra little wait. We all oversleep once in a while! I definitely recommend staying here.
