Lo Sfizio

We've just been to this restaurant in the center of Moena. The food was quite good but the service was disappointing. When we arrived there were only a few guests the place started to get busy after we placed our order. We were a company of 4. We ordered a soup, which I shared with my friend, and 4 pizzas. They brought the soup and 2 pizzas on time but we had to wait one hour to get the rest while everybody else was served in the restaurant. I suppose they forgot to place the rest of our order or they completely forgot about us ( maybe because we were only tourists ordering only pizzas). I got very disappointed because we wanted to enjoy our meal together and not to eat separately with an hour difference. The only thing they could do was to say sorry. I got very annoyed so I cancelled my order for a pizza. The owner was around and they didn't even try to do anything to make things right. They never thought of filling up our glasses with prosecco ( which is only 3 euros for a glass) or offering us a grappa. I have been to many places in the world and as I experienced the least is to offer a drink if not the dishes for gratis which we had to wait for. On top the waitress never brought the change just thanked when we paid. Ok it wasn't a big amount only 3 euros but I was determined not to tip them after I was left hungry. It's not my habit not to leave a tip but in this case I don't think they deserved anything.

Rifugio Fuciade

Reviewed By Marcovojage

Tonight we had dinner at Rifugio Fuciade. To reach the restaurant cars must be parked when the road ends next to hotel Miralago, nearby Passo S. Pellegrino slopes. On arrival at the car park, the restaurant staff indicated us where to park. Then we set of in the woods with a snowcat and reached the restaurant in a few minutes. We had an OK dinner in the overcrowded basement of the “Rifugio” and eventually asked to be returned to the car park (chargeable service). This time instead of the snowcat we had an open air snowmobile. It is 10.30 pm, heavy snow, -5C. The ride was actually freezing but somewhat fun; at the end we were dropped off in the wood about 100m away from the car park. Once at the car park, there there was no longer any staff from Fuciade. Yet a number of other cars had parked and one of them was blocking us off: we were stuck in the snowstorm! It is freezing, we have a child with us, no staff to assist. I call the restaurant and they promise to look fast for the owner of the car. After about 20 minutes and a number of phone calls we are told that the owner is identified but all snowmobiles are in service thus we need to wait further until when the owner of the car that blocks us can be picked up. At this point I call the local police who then contacted the restaurant in turn. Finally things moved and after further 25 minutes finally someone arrived to move the vehicle. The driver explains that he it was the restaurant staff upon arrival to point him to the parking spot opposite our car and he assumed they would have then managed logistics with the other guests. In the meantime, the owner of Fuciade was declining all responsibility by phone, stating that it was all the driver’s (note - her customer!) fault. To cut a long story short: Fuciade is using a public car park that they staff when guests arrive to make sure they get up and dine. On the way back everybody disappears and you are left on your own. A totally irresponsible attitude considering that this is at high altitude in freezing weather conditions. Reality is that what probably used to be a local farmhouse has now outgrown to a busy touristy restaurant, bigger than the ability of the owners to properly manage it all.No courtesy, no apologies, just a lot of arrogance from someone who is just focussed on making money out of a special location. Does not matter though if after dinner you are left freezing with a young boy in the middle of a snowstorm. My reco: do not go! There are plenty of more genuine and better managed traditional restaurants in the area.

Let's say that in this restaurant food is an accompaniment for wine, rather than the other way round. The dishes we had were perfectly acceptable, simple traditional cuisine executed correctly. A stuffed cockerel, a pasta with ricotta, white asparagi with 'Bozen sauce', beef cheek with polenta, apple cake, chocolate torte...But their cellar, oh, their cellar is on a different level. You can find essentially all the best wines of the region (and more), both bubblies (trentodoc) and regular wines. They have ALL the vintages of San Leonardo, one of the best Bordeaux style Italian wines. And at very reasonable prices.Prices for food were also very reasonable. Service was very, very pleasant. A young sommelier, in particular, was understated and oozed passion and competence on the wines they serve.Egregio Signore,La ringraziamo per le parole di apprezzamento espresse nella Sua recensione e ci auguriamo di poterLa avere ancora ns. gradita ospite. I was here with my family for New Year's Eve and we had a lovely time. Food was probably too much- we were stuffed at the end, but it was very nice! The menu was set, and it was not trivial at all. Very interesting flavours. The staff was very nice and the service good, considering that they had to serve all tables at the same time. The place is very pretty.

We went to this restaurant already three times in three different evenings and with different people and I have to say that the food and service was always excellent. The chef and perhaps owner in one person, Michelangelo knows his job very well. The service is also very nice, food quite original and creative, very tasty and it is in beautiful local settings. Very original view from the place near toilet straight to the stable with cows. Beautiful place and always great experience

MALGA PANNA

Another excellent dinner at this temple of the Val di Fassa gastronomy. Some of the creations by Paolo Donei in my opinion stand comparison with those of more famous multistarred chefs. The signature dish egg in polenta crust with truffle, cream of cheese and spinach, for example, behind its apparent simplicity hides much preparation work, uses great produce, and it embraces you with a memorable subtlety of flavours and textures.A primo of spatzle with herbs, girolles and a speck infusion summarises what this cuisine is about: strong, traditional flavours elevated to delicacies of high refinement and elegance. Two mains, a venison and a duck, both had at their core a fantastic, chunky, tender and perfectly cooked piece of meat, with clever and tasty garnishes around them: the braised red chicory giving moisture to the duck, with almond and smoked oil flavours; and the Jerusalem artichokes (coming in different ways) with a Pinot nero reduction. My only small reservation is just a tendency to saltiness, but this is personal taste. You can't skip desserts at Malga panna: a parfait was just good, but a 'cappuccino ice cream' with liquorice and milk was fun, creative, beautiful, deliciously balanced, hovering between the bitterness of the liquorice and the sweetness of the rest. You get so much more during a meal here, amuse bouche, breads, pre-dessert and petit fours. The prices are very, very fair such abundance and quality. The wine lover will also find satisfaction, gently guided by the always informative maitre Michele and the rest of his team. And the setting...well, that is magical (a little upholstering of all the benches would make it even more comfortable).I only manage to visit the Malga once a year, but every time I'm looking forward to returning.

Visited on business in June. After an epic trek up the mountain to find it, no signs and the trip advisor map location is about 1km out?! We were rewarded with fantastic views. We had no reservation but surprisingly the staff gave us a balcony table which provided the best view in the house! Sheepskin wraps provided if you get chilly! Authentic Italian food served by delightful ladies wearing traditional dress. Perfect English from our waitress, put our italian to shame. The home made pasta was perfect with delicious fresh breads. Fantastic desserts. Well worth seeking out, not a spare seat in the house by 8.30pm.
