Vine a cenar. La parrillada estupenda, el menú de cenas igual. Las pastas no son su fuerte. Sin embargo, la tradición y el ambiente sopesan algunas deficiencias en la cocina.

"El Monje" means the Monk, and the restaurant used to be a monastery - feels steeped in history! It has a beautiful patio and big old rooms which must also be good for private parties. I confess that I have only eaten the Monje's thick black bean soup, delicious - but the hefty, solid fare beloved by Coban folk. Their cold beer, fizzy lemonade and coffee are also good. It has good wifi, and I have lurked and written from there. I really like the sweet, friendly, unobtrusive staff, the amiable atmosphere and the kindly owner who,, incidentally gives free office space to a charity from the top of what used to be the monastery's belfry.Muchas gracias por visitarnos, nuestros clientes son lo más importante para nosotros y sus opiniones nos ayudan a crecer, esperamos que vuelva pronto

Casa de la Crepe

I am an elderly traveller, who speaks no Spanish. I checked in at this hotel for a night. Umberto is the manager, and he speaks excellent English. He was most helpful in providing information and arranging for quality onward transportation, so as to avoid the tough travel otherwise. The hotel is centrally located on the main plaza, with good security and a reasonable tariff.

A very nice blend of local flavors with a Cobanero/Q’eqche bent. So refreshing! Lots of traditional food and a few restaurants that have european flare or just a wonderful grilled steak but this is art and flavors that are delightful to the pallet and eye! I would give it a five but the atmosphere is missing just a bit of warmth. Good music to boot! For this middle-America gringo, a wonderful treat and will be back tomorrow nigehts to try 3 more dishes! Wow!By the way, wonderful entrees with yucca purée y crisp fresh veggies and garlic bread AND excellent service!

I went for dinner two nights while I was in Coban, one everything was really nice, the servers are career servers, and really good at what they do. Second night my "longaniza" was undercook, but they took so long to get it to me that I was not in the mood to wait for another hour for it, So I ate the extremes. I told the lady that came with the check about it, and she was not interested at all on our problem, she did even try to admit their fault. I was pretty disappointed at that incident.

La Abadia

Found this place using google maps. It was just a block away from our hotel. The photos looked great so we gave it a shot. I ordered the meat and cheese board. It was a joke. The meat was identical to prepackaged lunch meat. What was presented on the tray was pepperoni and some weird from of salami. The cheese was cut in huge triangles and the bread that was served with it was old and stale. Thank goodness I didn’t finish my appetizer because that meat and cheese tray gave me a violent episode of food poisoning. We are sorry your experience was not as spected. We have never advertised the cheese board as something different from what it is, actually the menu doesn´t mention "meat" it's mentioned as "sausages" and the cheese is cut as gastronomical standards everywhere. Before ordering I personally asked you if you had questions, and you both say no. You had plenty of time to ask questions because, if you remember, you had to wait for a table, since it was crowded. We baked our own bread every two days, so it is impossible to serve it "old and stale", We served more boards that day and had zero complaints. My wife is the restaurant's chef so, believe me, the standards are high. Your companion was already sick when you got to the restaurant, he went several times to the bathroom, and he didn't eat his carrot soup cause he said he wasn't feeling right, even though he said it was excelent when asked. On the other hand, you ordered a Chicken breast with Roquefort cheese and asked the sauce to be put aside, and you ate all of it! meanwhile I asked at least once if everything was ok, and both of you told me everything was ok. You can check on other's oppinions that our restaurant has a policy in which we try hard to please our guests and we change everything they don't like, no questions asked, and/or don't accept money from them if they are not sattisfied. It is not faire to trash someones´s reputation online, when you had all the chances to settle it in place if you had only said it, We are not a perfect restaurant by we are a serious one and we take care of our guests. This is the first time we have to answer to an oppinion because it doesn't reflect the actual experience. Maybe you had a bad day or maybe you were worried about your companion´s health but is not faire, my wife and I would take the blame on it, I can't understand how you could have had a "violent episode of food poisoning" from the cheese board if after that you ate your chicken?? We are sorry our cuts are not up to your personal likings but it doesn't make them bad and the "sausages", not meat, are in good condition all the time!To honor our policy we will give you back your $37 from the cheese board, the chicken breast, the carrot soup, two bottles of water and one strawberry juice, just give me an acount number and it will be sent your way! our email address is [email protected] would be very honnest from your part to consider you qualification since, in this case, blame wasn't on our side
