Gastro Pub with very expensive drink prices. Food we had was ok but over priced for what you receive. Can't fault the service though. Very attentive, polite & accomodating. The view over the river is only real redeeming quality of this establishment. Chose sausages, mash & greens along with a small soda and lime as thought might fall asleep during show if had a beer. Would have had Tagliatelle with walnuts & stilton but last time couldn't taste cheese and server said still not cheesy.Hi Peter,Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.We haven't had the tagliatelle on the menu for a good few months so maybe the server misunderstood!However if this does happen again we are always happy to provide more cheese to suit the customers palate. Staying in Twickenham for a few days we looked at menus for all the pubs on the riverfront at Richmond, and strolled down Old Palace Lane when we saw the sign for The White Swan from the towpath. Really glad we did. The menu was far more inventive than others we'd seen, and maybe because it's not smack on the river, seemed better value.The Thai salad starter is very tasty. Prawns in filo more standard. Both mains - chicken and bacon pie and roasted chicken with wild mushrooms and cavolo nero were excellent. So much so we decided we'd return next evening and try a dessert - and the evening after when our daughter joined us. Excellent food throughout (except the beautifully cooked cod loin should have crispy skin if it's left on the fish). The tonka bean and orange panna cotta with crispy brandy snap is brilliant. Wines were excellent quality at a reasonable price. The Papa Figos Portuguese red particularly.Best of all is the front of house service. Just the right tone of friendliness and engagement.

First impression from outside is that this is just another back street pub, located next to Tedding railway station. When I made my reservation, I was told that only downstairs tables were available; significant only because I later found that the upstairs is slightly nicer than the downstairs. Not a problem. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Quick service with a smile. Very clean pub, light and airy. So before the food arrived I was ready to ready to rate this place 3/5. Then the food arrived, and my rating went from 3/5 to 5/5.They served probably the nicest Sunday roast I have ever seen. Generous portions of top quality food, expertly cooked, beautifully presented. Just delicious. I've not been a fan of creamed cabbage before, but now I am if it's how they serve it. Parsnips superb - delicious coating. If my life depended on finding something negative to say about the meal, the best I could do is suggest that the gravy could be slightly thicker, but even that is so subjective as to not really count. Prices vary slightly with the meat chosen (lamb, beef, chicken, pork), but all are under £15 per plate at time of writing. Great value. If your entire party want the same meat, you could choose their Sunday Roast Sharing Board, which makes sense for 3 people. A good range of desserts is offered, although none were diabetic friendly otherwise I might have had one. This is a complaint I will be using more often often on TA, because desserts for diabetics are rare but no more difficult that mains for vegetarians. I did have a coffee though and that was excellent. Summary: Well above average food for average prices. The Railway is a Great British gem.Footnote: Thanks to previous TripAdvisor reviewers for rating this to catch my attention.

We returned to dine here again early evening after the England vs Ireland pre-RWC game at Twickenham. Loved our dinner here. Friendly service, lovely atmosphere and a brilliant meal. Salted caramelTart at the end was probably the star of the show but the Hake was also excellent. Crab Soufflé needed something more, but tiny things and overall this is a great find and to will be coming back
