Entering the cafe, the first thing that strikes is that it's quite a sterile environment. Everything is white and it doesn't strike as a Gelateria. The ice creams themselves are fine, but not very inventive. The staff don't seem to enjoy leaving their area behind the counter, which is slightly problematic.

On our way to another restaurant we found this (new) jewel by accident! The welcome was very friendly and the chef/owner came to take our orders and when we asked for an alteration of a dish it was no problem at all and they would substitute the ingredient for something else. When the food arrived it looked good and the taste was even better! We didn't find any other restaurant in this price range that came even close to La Galera in terms of food and staff friendliness. All the staff speak really good English and they all make it their top priority to make your dinner as pleasant as can be. If you are in Trujillo you shouldn't miss out on this fantastic place!

The bar itself is quite small and cold due to the aircon. Hence, I would suggest to use their delivery service instead of eating there.The sushi - we had three rolls and 4 special rolls for 105 Soles - was not what we would call original sushi. They use a lot of mayo and other salsas, the rice tastes kind of sweet (not our taste) and the salmon as well as tuna did not have a taste at all. Most of the sushi on the menu is with meat - often fried. Moreover, not everything on the menu is available - we had to reconsider our joice a couple of times... The rolls they made with fresh fish frim the region though were quite good.

We wanted to try some Peruvian-Japanese fusion food and came here on the recommendation of the other Tripadvisor reviews.The menu is quite extensive, and they offer specialty maki (done Peruvian style), traditional Japanese maki, salads and other hot cooked food.We ordered their maki specialties over the traditional Japanese maki, and the food took almost 45 mins to arrive during our Sunday lunch. It appeared that we were the only tourists in the restaurant, and the other tables were full of locals. We however saw that the food generally took a long time to be served even for those tables that were seated before us.The maki came loaded with lots of sauce, perhaps too much for our liking as it completely overwhelmed the taste of the ingredients. This may however simply be the way the Peruvians like it, and while it was interesting to try their take on Japanese cuisine, we didn't think it tasted that great overall. We ordered 4 different types of maki (comprising 5 pieces each) and this was sufficient for the two of us as they were quite heavy handed with the sauces.There was no English menu, and the service staff didn't seem to speak much English but we managed to use Google translate to understand the menu.

We are staying at the hotel and decided to have lunch here. The food is delicious. However service is mediocre. We have to call constantly to get attended and the waiters work as if they didn't want to. Sadly they have plenty of waiters I don't know what they are doing all the time. Some of are nice but the whole restaurant is badly managed. I was lucky in that I stayed at the hotel so was able to enjoy Las Bovedas whenever I wanted over six days. I ate breakfast daily and dinner here multiple evenings and enjoyed everything from asparagus soup to mixed salad to delicious steak to fresh ceviche: in fact their ceviche (seabass) was my favorite ceviche dish that I had in all of Peru! I am still dreaming about it. The service was wonderful - every single time.
