Family meal with excellent service and very tasty food. Here is a picture of starter and main course was equally tasty. Washed down with lemon-cello.... what more do you need? Very attentive staff and would thoroughly recommended Hunters Stables to anyone. Been many times and hopefully will be many more times.

Ignore the naysayers. This was the first time my wife and I have been here, and we were very impressed. The location is great, the Hergés theme quirky. We came on the recommendation of my mother, a fickle beast, who rates it very highly for her vegetarian diet. We, alas, are carnivorous, but were certainly not disappointed. Our wedding anniversary intact, with no hint of a divorce looming due to poor choices, we lunched on beautiful plates of chicken, and guinea fowl. I cannot rate the chicken, as my wife guarded it like a jealous pit bull, but my guinea fowl was beautiful; splendidly cooked, melt in the mouth, with lovely shallots, picklet beet, wilted spinach, heritage carrots and fondant potatoes. The chicken had magnificent potatoes, cabbage and pancetta, and a stuffing of cheese. It looked marvellous. Portion size was just right, particularly if you have a fairly moderate appetite, and left enough room for desserts, which were very good, but not as good as the mains. Sorry! Service was excellent; our waiter and waitresses both attentive and considerate, never overdoing it or leaving us feeling neglected. Overall, a delightful experience, and we will most certainly be back. Unless, in the meantime, I find another wife prepared to share her chicken.

Marmion's Brasserie

Reviewed By melusinet2016

We went to Melrose to visit the Abbey and discovered this restaurant close by. The young women who served us was delightful and brought us quickly fresh and homemade Fish and Chips and a Beef Burger. The Chips were crispy and not soggy, the Haddock was fresh and with a lovely beer Batter and an exceptional homemade sauce tartar. The bun of the burger seemed homemade, as well as the coleslow and was quite good. For us a bit strange was Irn Bru - which we ordered to try out, it tastes like fluid orange gummibears. But this was not the fault of the restaurant. The restaurant self is clean, even if the tables are a tiny bit sticky and the view is very nice.

Been here so many times but still keep returning - this time with a golfing friend from Manchester who knows his stuff - said his sea bass was just wonderful.........and all the food was so freshly cooked.Quite quiet for a Tuesday night so didn’t need to book but would advise doing so later in the week.Good wine reasonably priced but just a main course and no puds or coffee as pushed for time before departing by taxi.Good service by “Sweet Carolina’ in an unobtrusive way. Will keep returning.

The Greenhouse Cafe in Melrose came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. We called in for breakfast as it opened at 8am and were treated to delicious combinations of porridge (with honey & banana) a “Greenhouse” breakfast (the works) and a made to order poached eggs on toast. Great service, good value and convenient for the town and Abbey.

We had an excellent meal at this restaurant. It’s a notably smart restaurant with delightful staff. GF options are available. The meals were of high standard. Leave room for the desserts - sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble & custard. However, because of the quality, expect to pay up - steaks are around £27.

The Townhouse

Reviewed By shug17

Melrose has a lot of eating establishments to choose from so we opted for the Townhouse as I had been there a few months ago for a funeral and it seemed nice.Inside the décor was nice and there were other couple easting which I took as a good sign.I love Cullen Skink (read my other reviews) and it was a deciding factor too in coming into the Townhouse. It was fantastic! Really nice. My companion had fish in breadcrumbs and chips and he really enjoyed it.Sadly my issue is more with customer service – I had ordered a chicken and bacon mayonnaise sandwich to accompany my Skink and everything arrived together as requested. That was ok. The lady who I assume was manageress delivered my sandwich calling it a ‘ciabatta’ which should have alerted me I guess. It also came with chips and I had a feeling what I ordered came with crisps. I thought she was maybe trying to ‘posh it up a bit’?Anyway once finished my fantastic Skink I started into the sandwich and found onion chutney with the bacon. I assumed it was a fancy sandwich so ate more. I started to wonder where the chicken was and after eating the first half opened up the second to find bacon, some cheese, rocket and onion chutney. No chicken or mayo to be seen. It was not an unpleasant but was not what I had ordered. I watched as the staff scuttled about to other diners and expected a check back – “is everything ok?” – it never came. So I ate the second bit of bacon and left the rest. In fairness I ate some of the chips and picked at the veg in the side salad. When the girl came to clear our plates she then asked if everything was ok. We said the fish was lovely and that the Skink was fantastic but I pointed out to her that the sandwich was not the one I had ordered. In these days of food allergies etc I was trying to be helpful. Luckily I don’t have any allergies. I know that mistakes happen but it is how an establishment deals with them that show up the good places from the bad. While I do not like to complain or make a scene or fuss I do realise that if no-one says that something is wrong then an establishment can’t put things right and that’s not fair to them either. If you read my profile you’ll see that I once sent food back and that went really badly – I’ll never do that again! The girl apologised and went to the lad behind the bar (he had taken the order) and they looked at our check and I heard her explain that the way he had written down the order had caused the mistake. He came over towards me and I asked for the bill. The manageress lady came in and rung up the bill after she had been in conversation, outside, with the girl serving.I went to the bar to pay and asked if I had been charged the full amount for my sandwich (gathering evidence for TA) The manageress rather curtly replied “yes as I had eaten it.” I explained that I had been waiting from a check back and she said “We don’t do that!” and continued to lay all the blame at my door – I should have said something sooner. She made me feel very stupid, sad, humiliated and angry. There was no hint of an apology from her and as a result I would say to anyone thinking to eat here to think twice. If you do – check very carefully what you order and more importantly what you actually get. If she had simply said ‘sorry’ and maybe a couple of quid off the bill – this review would have been glowing!I'm very sorry that you received the Bacon, red Onion & Brie Ciabatta instead of the Chicken, bacon & Mayo Sandwich on your visit on Monday. I hope you will accept our apologies. Our Staff try hard & make very few mistakes so I feel you are slightly over reacting when you write to warn people to think twice before eating in the Townhouse, especially when you actually sounds like enjoyed your meal with us.Thanks again for your review

We recently visited The Hoebridge as a group with our friends. Although the restaurant was busy, following drinks in the bar we were seated in the private conservatory area. Kyle and his team were very attentive and orders taken we didn’t have to wait long for our food to arrive. A starter of burrata, Parma ham and peach followed by a lamb main were very tasty. I finished the meal with a homemade warm crumble/ fruit tart which I very much enjoyed and a coffee. A great night in great company.
