Turkish Meze Bar

Authentic Turkish & Mediterranean food We have 35 years experience on Turkish food We giving Turkish hospitality to our guests

We eat a lot of Turkish food, having lived in Green Lanes, Haringey, for over 20 years, and consider ourselves real aficionados. Imagine our delight, therefore, when we found this little gem in the Dovercourt area of Harwich. It was a quick overnight visit, and we didn’t hold out high hopes. However, from the moment we walked in it was just the best experience: lovely friendly, helpful staff, nice atmosphere, about half full, and a nice table that we had reserved in advance via their website. Turns out we didn’t need to have done, but we are so glad we did, because it wasn’t something I’d like to have missed. As is customary in Turkish restaurants there were a number of free nibbles/starters (bread, black olives, tsatsiki and a lovely crumbly cheese, not feta, don’t actually know what it was called, but it was fantastic). They were happy to tell us what we were going to get for free, so that we could then adjust our order accordingly. I hate it when they give you things that you’ve ordered, or you expect things that you didn’t order and then don’t get. Anyway, on top of the freebies we had hummus to share, then chicken shish for me, and lamb chops for my husband. They came with tomato, peppers, the most fantastic salad, and rice for him. I was offered Bulgar wheat or quinoa but I asked for extra salad instead and that’s exactly what I got: the most delicious pile of fragrant, fresh, very very lightly dressed, crunchy salad. The very helpful waitress recommended a Turkish red wine, again no idea what it was called, but it was fantastic. And the best bit of all was it costs 60 quid in total. What a fantastic place, highly recommended.

Enjoyed a very pleasant meal here on a quiet Monday evening. A separate vegetarian and vegan Menu is available as the main menu has limited options in that department. Whilst the options were limited they are imaginative and there was enough variation to offer a good choice of options. Service was good and attentive. excellent range of gins as well. Definitely a fine dining venue and quite expensive but the perfect place to a treat.

After a long day walking along the sea front, it was time to relax. We chanced upon Anatolia and were lucky to find a table. Its worth booking early. Nonetheless we ordered food and drinks from the helpful waitress and enjoyed an excellent meal. I had a vegetarian meal, suggested by the attentive waitress which not only looked good but tasted delicious. Both meals were full of fresh ingredients, served hot and tasty. Apologies for not being a fan of Turkish Delight, but it was a nice touch at the end of the meal.

Our first visit even though we have lived on the peninsular for around three years. Lovely ambiance and friendly welcome. Thursday lunchtime, so not overly busy. Lovely touches like proper serviettes and jugs of water already on the table. Not that much choice of real ale. Food was superb. I had the calves liver and my wife the cod and prawn linguine. Not open Sundays & Mondays. We will be back

I have been to eat here several times and have loved the food and encouraged other people to go. But I now feel very sad as wanted to take my family here and we had to leave as my two grown up children were refused service due to their nut allergies. The cafe was unwilling/unable to accommodate their requirements. This came as such a shock as it has never happened anywhere before, either in the UK or abroad, to either of them. Many shops and restaurants will make you aware of the fact that they cannot rule out a risk of a trace of nuts and then leave customers to make their own decision. Interestingly the cafe will serve people with gluten intolerance. We were told they would not put the cafe at risk of serving someone with a nut allergy and this is a clear blanket ban. If you don’t have this problem, I can highly recommend the food, but I have to give them a lower rating due to the lack of flexibility and it does mean I may not be returning for some time.We take your families health seriously. We have nuts in most of our food, as you presumably know from previous visits. It may be an idea when booking to check whether there are nuts in the food if unsure surely? We spoke that morning when you rang and didn't mention any dietary issues. To argue with us, in our excellent restaurant, and tell us about what we can or cannot serve is unreasonable. To say you have an allergy, but are happy to risk it is irresponsible, furthermore we would be too if we were not to take your warning seriously. We have this statement on our tables and our websites and in our menu: Please note that while we can accommodate certain dietary requirements (such as gluten intolerances) we are unfortunately unable to feed nut allergy sufferers. Nuts are widely used throughout our kitchen and we cannot guarantee that traces may not be present. We therefore feel it to be unsafe and irresponsible for us to serve food to any individuals with such an allergy. We're very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have a food allergy or a special dietary requirement please inform a member of staff at time of booking. Please note, we cannot guarantee food freshly prepared with in our kitchen is 100% free from any particular ingredient or allergen.
