Maison Touareg

I was in Milano for an exhibition and on monday evening there were almost no open restaurants, as oftens happens in Italy. There was an Italian restaurant in the same road, but he was fully booked and could not welcome us.So I have headed my colleagues to this place, claiming that the moroccan food is good. The owner, working as waiter, is a Moroccan young man very kind and very hospitable, fine and conversational: not only he was good to suggest us what to try in their menu, but he was keen to answer our questions about his experience in Milano and about the culture of Morocco; a really nice and good person.I am quite pleased of his service and delighted of the food; with my surprise, we could drink there even a good bottle of Chianti wine.We went for starters and I had a main dish with meaballs and potatoes, while my colleagues had chicken; all the food was served in their traditional pots.I recommend to everybody if you are in the area of Milano Villapizzone.Grazie mille, we'd like to be back to you!

La Ratera

A wide selection of beers served by friendly waiters, but the din is unbearable when the place is full and everyone needs to shout above the noise to be heard. Better avoid weekends.

We went here for a "date night" - we wanted a place that wasn't too far from home, but not around the corner, either. The location is a bit sinister, especially when it's dark and raining: you have to ring a doorbell to be let in - but once we walked into the room, we knew everything was fine. The room, light and roomy, was full of smiling, satisfied-looking customers. I grew up in a restaurant family, so when the owners greeted us, I immediately recognized the kind of pride that means you're in for a great evening. And that it was! It's definitely not cheap - a plate of soup cost 18 euros, but, on the other hand, mineral water, a glass of spumante, great bread, and a couple of excellent "amuse gueules" were all included in the price. Everything about the food was great - elegant, creative, first-quality ingredients perfectly combined and cooked. Even if it's not our usual kind of place - we're more into funky ethnic or regional food than nouvelle cuisine - we loved it, and that, together with the excellent service and relaxed but festive atmosphere made for a perfect evening. We spent a little over 100 euros for 2 "primi", an antipasto and a secondo, two desserts and a half-liter bottle of wine. It's not the kind of sum you'd want to spend every week for a meal, but it was definitely worth every penny. We'll be back, but next time, we'd like to try out the tasting menu at 55 euros per person. Recommended!
