This was our introduction to Dong minority food. Both similar to other southern Chinese food but distinct and intresting. As typical of Chinese meals, the more people in your group, the more dishes to sample. We were limited becaouse of our small group of four and over ordered for selection variety.

Some kind of a must when visiting Kaili. The Sour Soup is a signature dish of the restaurant, and one of the most authentic of The Miao minority. Here you may have hat as a hot-pot-like serving, and the recipe is quite delicious. Many other good recipes too. Tips: (a) If spicy (meaning hot) bothers you, then ask the waiter to have it "Wei La"' meaning moderate use of chili, although the dish, by itself, is not so hot. (b) If by yourself (and not by a guided tour) Ask the receptionist at you hotel to write the name of the restaurant in Chinese and give it to your taxi driver, and have the name of the hotel in Chinese too, for getting back to the hotel.
