Find out what Chinese restaurants to try in Faversham. Faversham /ˈfævərʃəm/ is a market town and civil parish in the Swale district of Kent, England. The town is 48 miles from London and 10 miles from Canterbury and lies next to the Swale, a strip of sea separating mainland Kent from the Isle of Sheppey in the Thames Estuary. It is close to the A2, which follows an ancient British trackway which was used by the Romans and the Anglo-Saxons, and known as Watling Street. The Faversham name is of Latin via Old English origin, meaning "the metal-worker's village".

Crossed over the road from the cinema and decided to give China Village a try, we have recently moved to the area.Unlike the review below we had a charming waitress and excellent service - We had drinks and prawn crackers, then the mixed starters which were delicious and nicely cooked, followed by a tasty sizzling beef dish and Singapore noodles - all very good and enjoyable - will definitely be back - thank you :)

Both my wife and I are good cooks. This means that if we are going out for a meal that will cost considerably more than eating at home the restaurant must provide three things. 1. A pleasant ambiance. 2. Welcoming staff. 3. An enjoyable meal.A recent visit to a newly opened restaurant in Faversham failed miserably in all three categories. So it was a pleasure to find the Maypole certainly succeeded in all three.Having said that one must confess this charming and cosy Thai (three evenings a week) restaurant was slightly strange in a few respects. The very comfortable interior rather resembles an upmarket tea shop. In addition this recently totally refurbished shop is dominated by an enormous well stocked newly built bar that seems to have no connection with the restaurant other than taking up a huge amount of space. But to the food. Despite living next door to a pub that for ten years served Thai food our experience was restricted to the mixed 'Thai Platter' that was served in the bar. And very enjoyable it was too. At the Maypole my wife and I ordered the shared meal for two. This started with a not dissimilar platter but we both at once realised that this was certainly of superior quality to the one we had become used to. So this was an extremely good start, and the rest of the meal bore out our initial impression. It is most encouraging to welcome such a restaurant to the Faversham food scene. So, given our enthusiasm, why only four stars? The dropped star is the way the bill is presented and one hopes this will be improved. This is the type of restaurant where one orders a number of separate dishes plus drinks. And some groups split the bill. But when requesting the bill at the Maypole one receives a piece of plain paper on which the total cost of the meall has been written with no details whatsover. And given that the menu has disappeared by then you have no opportunity to check its accuracy or apportion shares if the bill is to be split. This surely will be improved in time.(This Thai restaurant has changed during the reasonably short time it has been open. Originally it did not serve full meals and not late in the evening, It served Oriental (presumably Thai) teas, which it still does. It now also serves Thai dinners on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays plus lunches that include an English menu I believe.)

Take away was very busy but the phoned in order was swiftly bought to the counter. The staff where friendly and efficient though very busy. The menu is reasonably extensive but not very traditional ie more English than Chinese. Sadly this is more often than not the case. Having said that the food was tasty but should have had more oomph in some of the dishes and lacked the brightness of more traditional cooking. It was still however the best I’ve eaten in Faversham.

Yeung's II Chinese Takeaway

The restaurant is large and rarely filled. As a result it has little or no atmosphere. There is plenty of room. The ceilings are high and the restaurant also has a large road facing window. Which makes is feel like a goldfish bowl. The food was not great. The buffet was not piping hot. And I didn't enjoy the rice. The main dishes were a little watery and incredibly sweet. Yes you can eat as much as you want but it's pointless if there standard isn't there. The takeaway, again, is cheaper that many of its local rivals. But not as good in terms of quality. The chicken and sweetcorn soup was disappointing. We only tried this establishment once. So we could make up our own minds. And we're not impressed. Maybe the refurbishment will also mean an improvement in the food. But If you're looking for a good Chinese meal. These are better local alternatives for both Chinese restaurant food and take away.
